About this deal

I dare say I loved it 🖤 such an interesting magic system, good plot, good character development and visible growth. It’s a great dynamic from the very beginning, full of aggressive banter and threats of violence, but there’s this underlying attraction that creates delicious chemistry. This novel is the tale of a human servant at the Crimson Court who finds herself forced to steal from the Fae…If you subscribe to the author’s newsletter via her bio on Instagram, you’ll get this eBook for free. She's definitely worth reading about - she's strong throughout the book and her background made me empathetic towards her and angry for her but there were some places where she was a bit unkind towards the MMC.

If you like epic adventure, a strong peppering of ‘romantic’ smut, and a broad range of characters that include fae, elves, vampires, pheonixes, etc. When the brutal fae assassin known as the Silent Death sees her using her magic, he doesn’t kill her on the spot as she expects, instead, he whisks her away from her remote island home to the centre of the fae empire, the Crimson Court. He needs her assistance for this as he is bound by his mother and he needs someone with unbound magic. I absolutely love that the magic works through colour and I thought the Labyrinth was a delight, but they weren’t explored enough. There are quite some famous tropes in this novel, like enemies-to-lovers, there’s-only-one-bed, and fake relationship.

I hope that next book will be available as an audiobook because I'm invested in this story very much.Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. The treacherous Crimson Court, where the Mother of faekind has ruled unchallenged over fae and humans for decades. Unfortunately, not attending the party doesn’t prevent her from being spotted by nobody less than the deadliest Fae murderer, Creon. Em was a bit impulsive (as many fantasy heroines tend to be), but her fearlessness and personality really spoke to me.

There are more secrets to be uncovered, and Emelin understandably wrestles with whether she can trust the man she’s falling so hard for. I also loved the way in which he – more than a bit awkwardly – tried to build up Em’s confidence and deal with her difficult memories. The reader is soon introduced to a magic system based on colours, which is something that I personally had never encountered before. The one part of the story I really liked is when Emelin and Creon decide to test each other's self-restraint, but if I’m being honest, I expected more of these "midnight encounters".
