About this deal

Editing Medea to not kill her babes was also an interesting choice, when dads are killing the kids left and right. Whereas other people didn't know what the first part of the answer was let alone the other two parts.

This classic introduction to Greek mythology for children, written and illustrated by the husband-wife team, is divided into three main sections. As a kid I read constantly (probably 4-5 books a week), and this was one of my favorite books to re-read.Kids can lose themselves in a world of myth and magic while learning important cultural history in this beloved classic collection of Greek mythology. Now that goodreads has told me that he has added this book to his shelves, I think it even more likely!

Many of the d'Aulaires' early books depict the scenery and folktales of Norway: Ola, Children of the Northlights, East of the Sun and West of the Moon. My copy is old (stolen from my elder brother, in fact; it was his first), taped back together, missing it's covers, and extremely well-loved. Besides that, though, there are lots of stories in here, so it is a good introduction to Greek mythology. Mighty Zeus with his fistful of thunderbolts; mischievous little Hermes; grey-eyed Athena, godess of wisdom; Asclepius, the first physician; Orpheus and his beloved Euridice; Helios the sun, crossing the heavens in his fiery chariot.

Edgar, a pupil of Hans Hofmann and Henri Matisse, [3] studied fresco in Florence, painted murals in France and Norway, and exhibited in Paris, Berlin and Oslo. The couple immigrated to the United States from Europe and worked on books that focused on history such as Abraham Lincoln, which won the 1940 Caldecott Medal. D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths is a marvellous book full of marvellous stories, and now the Greek playwrights and poets and philosophers await. Rereading as an adult, I was struck by the absence of the story of Antigone, an odd choice given that the D'Aulaires do devote some space to Oedipus's warring sons.
