You will not be able to change the aperture on your Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 L IS USM using this manual Vello EF to L-mount adapter. Mounting APS-C size image circle DC lenses to a camera body equipped with a 35mm full size sensor still allows immediate use for shooting. I've used the Sigma L-EF on my S1 and S5 and it's a precision built adapter far better engineered than Viltrox or indeed Metabones. My experience has been when you mount the adaptor and lens IS is always shown as off in the menu and you have to turn it on each time. Experiment with new lens combinations and pair any Canon (EF/EF-S) mount lens with your Leica L mount camera. One star on auto focus, as this is purely an manual focus adaptor - but well made and very sturdy for my old vintage m42 lenses - If you want auto focus then definitely invest some more money in to it, but if you‘re happy pulling focus then this will do the job! L mount is not simply equivalent to Leica camera (Leica M, Leica R, Leica L are different mounts), please confirm your camera mount before purchase, or consult.

The first thing I bought for the S1R bodies when they came out was a Sigma MC21 adaptor, which is EF to L-Mount.With stabilised lenses like 70-300L and 100-400II via MC-21 - you are able to use the lens stabilisation. I am willing to bet dollars to donuts that the focus speed on your native Canon bodies will be much fasterr than when adapted to the S1R body. The biggest challenge will be the battery life of the S1R versus the Canon DSLR, and I recommend having three batteries per body if you are shooting video, going out to the landscape for more than two days, or more than three-thousand photos in a day.
