About this deal

This is one of those books that you can revisit anytime and read any page and it would still be interesting and insightful. Some of Anya's story could be pepped up with more actual real-life what she really went through narrative (a fair amount of the text is written in a remote 'remember to' or 'should do' manner, where, if she regaled me with the actual experiences I would be so much more interested). The book “If in doubt, wash your hair ” is a memoir by Anya Hindmarch, a globally renowned entrepreneur, the founder of an award winning global brand known for it’s craftmanship and creativity, a mother of five and also a step mother. When I requested a copy of this book from Bloomsbury India, I was under the impression that this is a self-help book. It isn't a terrible book - I'm sure it will appeal to and make a difference to some readers - it just wasn't particularly relevant to me.

The best thing about this book is that it’s enlightening without being preachy (which is the first reason that makes me love a non-fiction book). Am I supposed to know who Anya Hindmarch is and why she is equipped to be the oracle on business and womanhood? I love her positive, can-do, forward thinking, planning attitude, and reading this really inspires me - reminds me that while mountains are hard to climb, they're not insurmountable and with every hill we overcome, we will be able to better tackle future hurdles and take on more challenges. It helps to come back to a good book after a long day, which looks and feels like a warm sunshine company and you don’t mind spending some alone time with it.We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child.

At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. Being organised is critical to running a business and critical to running a family, and becomes essential when you manage both. I seem to have run across this problem before, that a book isn't too sure if it's a memoir or a how-to. I don't think it's a coincidence that you can't pick up your phone when your hands are covered in dough or clay, or busy weaving.I have underlined lots of quotes and highlighted some sections that I really liked and connected with. The way she described her son's illness making life feel unreal was just one example of human feelings very well described. She has honorary doctorates from UEA and the University of Essex but lives in London where her proudest achievement was hosting a sleepover in the bed department of Peter Jones. Anya Hindmarch, fashion designer, businesswoman and mother of five, founded her company as a teenager in 1987. I have come to the realisation that a lot of the doubt I feel - and I know I am not alone - comes from being surrounded by images of unrealistic ideals as defined by other people.

Even though Anya’s experience is far beyond mine I found myself on nearly every page either making notes or having this overwhelming sense I was walking in similar footsteps and finally someone who understood.

She is sure to mention that she not only had excellent familial support through the whole process, but also the addition of a nanny and au pair, which is of course out of reach to your typical start-up businessperson! From the chic front cover (sunny yellow, with contrasting blue lettering) to the flippant title it feels as though we’re firmly in beach book territory. There are so many wonderful lines in this book, it's incredibly accessible and easy to read too (she talks about her dyslexia as well! It’s always my aim to make quality time for both, I love drawing with my son, long walks in the park with my little girl and lunchtimes with my husband. Anya shares her challenges and her high points and I totally agree with her thoughts on being a woman in a male dominated industry.

After all, she thinks that children will be fine if they’ve honest, consistent, caring, understanding, listening and supportive parents. Registered office address: Unit 34 Vulcan House Business Centre, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EF. If it's fun and something you enjoy but doesn't have a market (won't bring in money) then it's a hobby not a business.

She was appointed Governor of the University of the Arts in 2010 and a Prime Minister's Business Ambassador in 2011, holds both and MBE and a CBE and is a Trustee of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Creativity is about solving problems and finding ways to do things well and it is probably needed most in the least creative business. The author wisely acknowledges her privilege in having had the funds and opportunity to set up her own business, as it really was built from scratch. If In Doubt, Wash Your Hair" is her best piece of advice, and the title of her very first non-fiction.
