About this deal

Maschine Mikro is the perfect first step for music producers already using a DAW to get hands on with their creative process, letting them tap out beats and melodies, and quickly build up loops and track ideas.

You can now audition drum kits without disrupting the current pattern, assuming the kits are picked from the Browser's list. While increased reliance on a computer screen might seem counter-intuitive, it actually does make a lot of sense.

You can also record and switch between multiple patterns during playback, which allows for more musical variation, so that everything doesn’t always sound the same. Plus, it comes with full versions the popular synths MASSIVE, MONARK, and REAKTOR PRISM, as well as the free KOMPLETE START. Finally, the Step mode builds beats and patterns with the 16x pads in the style of a classic step sequencer. Morph seamlessly between waveforms – from sine to saw to square – to create your own unique sounds, with no programming knowledge required. The Maschine hardware from Native Instruments has always been a winning formula, allowing DAW users to get hands-on with their music.

A compact screen guides the multi-function encoder, so you know exactly what you’re controlling, while staying in the creative flow.

I was thinking between MK3 and Mikro and I selected latter because I have all of the MK3s commands on my keyboard already so I would pay just for duplication of they keys and displays.

Andertons Music Company acts as a credit broker and not a lender and only offers credit products from Secure Trust Bank PLC trading as V12 Retail Finance. Keep in mind though, it’s equally adept at any kind of music – it’s even a great device for filmmakers who want to score their own movies but don’t know how to play all the instruments in an orchestra. Whether they're software-based or standalone hardware, most music creation systems remain largely unchanged once they've been released — but not Maschine! Or you can programme complex step-sequences in step mode, or create harmonic excitement with chord progressions thanks to the chord mode. A simple selection of buttons and controls offer total control over your project, allowing you to get on with the important stuff. On its own, MASCHINE Mikro has enough features to complete everything from very simple, to very complex musical productions, in whatever style of music or arrangement you’re inspired to create. All-new bigger pads, based on those of the popular MASCHINE Mk3, make tapping out beats, playing melodies, and building up tracks a more fun and hands-on experience. Our earlier review's hoped-for enhancements to quantisation haven't shown up yet, but at least the 50 percent quantise option remains: it moves notes halfway towards their intended destination, and can be applied several times if necessary. The world of seamless workflow, pad beatmaking and sequencing at your fingertips with a brand new user interface and sound library.

I really wanted something smaller to do all the same things (mostly) that I normally do on the big version. In the case of Rex files, you simply drag each one to an empty track, and a Pattern is created with trigger notes for each slice. Although not a thing of paper, the manual is a rare treat, its clear instructions given from two perspectives: hardware and software. Aspects of the software could still be improved: for example, the step-time input and quantise options. The powerful editing tools of the Maschine software allow various interventions and fine-tuning of the samples. I don't have many complaints (at my age there aren't many contexts where I can truthfully say that), but the main one is the lack of performance capture. Using the additional plate reverb, tweak a knob or the Smart Strip to hand-pick individual notes and keep them ringing into the stratosphere.
