About this deal

The seventh story in the Mistborn series is a fascinating diversion from what's gone before, revealing a secret second storyline which occurred simultaneously with the original trilogy. Only he could keep it secret for that long and then surprise his fans with a little extra something the same day he released another book. There are some vague hints relating to other books, but I bought this book for its story, not a weak link to another story. Kelsier is able to see a little ways into the future, and he sees that there is still hope for the city. It has minor spoilers for book 4 so it can be read after it but the important thing is finishing the main trilogy first.

The more familiar you are with his work the more exclamations you’ll probably make whilst reading and the more you will enjoy it. I know Sanderson's intentions are that no book be completely dependent on understanding the full universe, but honestly I can't imagine how swamped with new information a reader would be if they came into this only knowing the Mistborn series.By doing this, you'll have a better understanding of Sanderson's Cosmere universe, and it would allow you to enjoy this novella further. I mentioned my excitement over Khriss in my Bands of Mourning review, but really - getting to see her 'in the flesh', so to speak, and her interactions with Nazh, explained a great deal about what her goals are. Brandon Sanderson has written some truly awesome novels, but he also has released a few things that probably didn’t need to be published.

Soon after, Kelsier finds out that Leras (Preservation) is about to die, so he smashes the device and takes up the power of Preservation. This book answered lots of questions from the trilogy, and yes there is an afterlife and of course Kelsier refused to move on, instead he stayed to help his friends to make sure that they defeat Ruin. After being killed by the Lord Ruler, Kelsier meets Preservation as he is about to pass on to the spiritual realm. This novella is set after the original Mistborn trilogy but Sanderson recommends it be read after The Bands of Mourning. Mistborn: Secret History builds upon the characterisation, events and worldbuilding of the original trilogy. Possibly this means Threnody is close to Scadrial, but even then that suggests that shades can travel away from their home planet via the Cognitive, which is interesting.

Here is hoping we get more about the other characters in this novel, especially the galactic beings that seem to travel between worlds. We see the way they react and the things they learn, and we see so much new stuff that it's hard to recount it all and consider all of the implications it has right off for the Cosmere. He tells him that the end is very near and that he can't do any good out here, which leads Kelsier to conclude that the opposite is true.

If you are a big fan of Mistborn, you’ve probably read this or you won’t wait for my recommendation to read it. He walks through a strange jungle that eventually thins out, trees becoming jagged stone-like sculptures. In short, this isn't the place to start your journey into Mistborn (though if you have listened to the trilogy - but it has been a while - you should be just fine, so long as you remember the characters and the general plot of the books). You get a detailed backstory on how the shards came in to play, and what else is going around in other planets, plus a deep dive in to the realm theory!

This novella is filled with major spoilers for the original Mistborn trilogy and minor spoilers for The Bands of Mourning. Kelsier: The famed Survivor of Hathsin, a half-skaa Mistborn who led a revolution against the Lord Ruler. If there are any other Mistborn fans out there like me, who loved the first trilogy, and enjoy the Wax and Wayne books but think they are missing that old flavor of the first. The Internet Speculative Fiction Database considers it to be novel length due to having nearly 50,000 words. Historia secreta de Mistborn es una historia corta de 180 páginas, del Cosmere que TIENEN que leer por muchos motivos.Definately do not read unless you have read at least the first Mistborn trilogy, and preferably also all the Wax books. Esta es la historia en la que bastantes preguntas son respondidas y a su vez surgen nuevas buscando respuestas todavía por llegar. Kelsier refuses to do so and races to the Well of Ascension at the heart of the Lord Ruler's palace, touching its power and thus anchoring himself to the world.
