About this deal

Its a fascinating story of a different time - a young man studying mathematics in the 1930's and of the second World War. Meanwhile, Hooker's team had moved onto their first axial-flow engine, which had been designed by A. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. He was employed first at Rolls-Royce where he worked on the earliest designs such as the Welland and Derwent, and later at Bristol Aero Engines where he helped bring the troubled Proteus turboprop and the Olympus turbojet to market. In the real world in which we live air’s viscosity gradually dissipates, like friction, all air motion into heat.

Most of our PDFs are also available to download and we're working on making the final remaining ones downloadable now.I should comment that I am a marine engineer who has worked with steam turbines so I do have some small understanding of rotating turbine engines albeit loosely connected.

All items are checked for completeness prior to sending and are well packaged in a strong box with plenty of void fill where necessary. Thus, Hives to Spencer Wilkes, “ Hooker, here, seems to get on very well with Whittle, and knows all about his jet engine. Under Levy’s guidance, I produced two papers — one published by the Philosophical Magazine and the other by the Royal Society — slightly extending von Kármán’s theory. While my right arm was no problem, merely requiring to be pulled straight and bandaged, my right leg was in a sorry mess. At this time, in the early 1930s, there were few people in the world studying the effects of compressibility on the flow of air.

However the copy I received is clearly defective, much to my immense frustration upon getting to the end of chapter 13 (Romania and China) to find the next page is halfway through chapter 12 (see page numbers in photos attached). From the early days of the engineering and the characters who drove the program on is a genuinely interesting history. He clearly just could not understand that the hordes of villagers and workers greeting their group from RR were almost certainly rounded up and told in no uncertain terms that they would be happy and smiling. It took him three goes at setting the leg, extending over a week, and when he was finally finished, he showed me the X-ray, and there it was with all the jagged bones fitted together like a jig-saw puzzle.

The short autobiography of Sir Stanley Hooker who worked on supercharger and jet engine design during the 40s to 70s. pm there was a general exodus, and I departed with the rest, thoroughly dispirited at the emptiness of my first day. Bedford talked about the various fighters he had flown, many of which had been powered by Hooker's engines. The UK in the early 70's was trying to sell both the technology and the engineering of turbines to China and Hooker bought into the entire façade put out by the Chinese of a nation of happy people all working in harmony under a benign dictatorship. Bairstow was interested, and it was for this reason he recommended me for the Armourers and Braziers Fellowship.Less comfortable must have been his injuries from accidents on the sporting field and motorcycle, which kept him immobile for almost a year. As technical director, he provided the expertise, drive and energy to lead and inspire the team, including drawing in old colleagues (some long retired), to rectify the problems and soon the RB.
