About this deal

It’s still a good story and I look forward to reading the rest to see how this story continues and if it’s similar in more ways.

I know this review was negative but I'm hoping the next book fixes a lot of these issues and it's just an issue of the first book. You also find out that Legion is not who you think he is and has been cursed to not remember who he is. Normalisation of these tropes in media leads to them being overlooked in real life, which contributes directly to the systemic oppression of people of colour and marginalised communities, regardless of the author’s intent. While there are already indications, the heroine nor the reader knows the extent of the hero's hidden agenda until over halfway into the book, so I hate how much the blurb gives it away. There were also a couple repetitive plot points (example: the Agitators rising up and getting quelled, rising up and getting quelled…), and the characters just weren’t deep enough for me to really feel connected to them. La autora me ha dejado con ganas de conocer más detalles sobre el mundo que ha creado y sobre el pasado del reino.

The characters “ride for what feels like hours” to get somewhere but then Elise manages to get back to her home on foot within a day. Right off the bat, obsessions with a warrior past are not exactly a great marker - especially when coupled with the clear viking inspiration for the Timoran (Elise’s) culture. At the end of the book we find the FMC and the MMC separated but you understand why even though the decisions might not be the best You can understand why they're in place and why they happened. However, I have a major issue with it, and looking through the reviews it simply does not seem to have been addressed. I really enjoyed this the characters really build and although it's not shocking in it's originality it's still well done.

It is obvious to her that the MMC is hiding something, as he has such liberal views and doesn’t conform to fit in with other. I always make sure I give a series a chance before I move on to something else, so I’ll be moving on with book 2. Dark and vivid, this YA Fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast was everything I was hoping for and didn't know I needed. While I do have minor issues with lack of clarity on certain plot points and poor world building and development of ideas, there is one glaring issue that I would much rather talk about - the way this book deals with race. Filled with luscious world building, banter-filled romance, and epic battles, Curse of Shadows and Thorns is the first book in The Broken Kingdoms series.

As the niece of the brutal, current king, her purpose is to do whatever is asked to ensure her family keeps the throne for centuries to come. I liked the premise but everything seemed to happen so fast that there wasn't any time to really savor the relationship between the hero and the heroine. In true Game of Thrones fashion, the potential for character building and plot and world building was there. She had absolutely no reason to go back there even to get Mattus knowing that atthat time she could not trust Mattus's Uncle. And while this story is interesting (and the audio good enough), I’m not yet sold on this series nor the author’s talent of storytelling.
