This one has made it to my Long List for my Top Ten Reads of 2016 and onto my personal favourites shelf. The first chapter really set the tone and pace for the rest of the book and once it grabbed me, it wasn’t letting go. The thought of knowing I have three previous books to devour is certainly a feeling that makes me very happy. In particular, at its heart, is the spectacular attraction The Angel of the North, a stunning visual landmark welcoming vistors to that part of the country. When another body is found in similar circumstances, it is clear that a serial killer is on the loose in Newcastle. As always, Ryan and his team put the hours in and race against the clock to find this murderer before anyone else loses their life. This author clearly knows the territory in which her books take place and does a beautiful job of describing each location, so much so, that I’ve put the region on my “must visit” list. Icy winds blasted through the streets and ushered the river towards the sea in surging waves that crashed against either side of the riverbank. This is a series that really packed a punch right from the first book, Holy Island, and sometimes it can be difficult to keep up the momentum as a series progresses. A few days before Christmas, his peace is shattered and he is thrust back into the murky world of murder when a young woman is found dead amongst the ancient ruins of the nearby Priory.
