About this deal

The most recent thing I bought for my home were some mid-19th century needlepoint cushions from an auction house in Sweden.

Heuman’s outlook isn’t focused solely on “beauty” or the “ideal home”, but on creating something that she believes is truer to human nature, a philosophy that “has established a well-deserved reputation for homes filled with whimsical, personal details” (Vogue UK). Lauded for international residential and commercial projects, Heuman has also garnered praise for her growing collection of bespoke fabrics, wallpaper, lighting, homewares, and furniture. In a short amount of time her lively interiors and custom furnishings have made her one of today s most in-demand creatives. In it, she gives the lowdown on how to give your home the Heuman treatment, transforming it with playful details, bright colours and bespoke furnishings, telling the story through photographs of some of her most ambitious projects. As we approach the anniversary of the first lockdown and mark a year of staying put, there’s one thing that stands out as a positive: with our homes out of bounds to anyone who didn’t live there, this was the year we stopped trying to impress other people.

Swedish-born, London-based interior designer Beata Heuman has created this beautifully crafted volume presenting her innovative approach to design in book form for the very first time.

The blue cabinet hides the refrigerator, and all the cabinetry handles were designed for the room and made by hand in Florence. Vibrant photographs showcase standout properties--including several London town houses and a Nantucket vacation residence--that are brought to life by cheerful color palettes, unexpected contrasts, and a dégagé use of bold patterns and texture. The mural on the terrace was inspired by the facade of the Palazzina del Cavaliere in the Giardino di Bobili in Florence, Italy. There is an oscillating line starting with the rattan chair, across the fire guard, following the lyre shape in the cabinet and over the back of the Wave Longue day bed in the bay window. Our home was everything to me and that feeling— that this one place can encompass all that you need—has never left me.

We’re already imagining our children fighting over it – I think we’re going to have to get another piece so they can each have one. I probably shouldn’t sully his work by letting my children learn how to use a knife and fork on his inlayed wood, but at least we’re all enjoying it. It is soulless design with no sense of place, and because of how prescriptive this look is, it is almost impossible to add layers to, and so it mostly just stays that way. The highly anticipated debut monograph from one of today’s leading designers championing playful, original interiors infused with Scandinavian flair. Like most Swedes she holds Ikea close to her heart – “eating meatballs in the café was a treat at weekends” – and many of her projects features its pieces, such as a white vanity unit that she recently installed in a bathroom and upgraded with a pair of brass door knobs, or a set of black woven chairs, made unique with bespoke seat pads.It has a strong following on these platforms and regularly shares design inspiration and tips with its followers. Beata Heuman is one of the hottest names in interior design: after honing her craft under the expert tutelage of Nicky Haslam, she struck out on her own in 2013, creating her eponymous brand that does everything from re-designing the homes of clients in Holland Park and Nantucket to selling her own playful collection of wallpapers, cushions and of course, that famous 'monster' salt pot. For more design tips and the chance to admire Beata Heuman's finest designs, pick up her new book, Every Room Should Sing, published earlier this month.

The first chapter of my book focuses on what home is and thinking back to what you liked as a child. People are often confident about expressing themselves in the clothes they wear but they don’t have the confidence to express their personality in their homes,” she says. The Every Room Should Sing Book by Beata Heuman presents her innovative approach in book form for the very first time. Beata Heuman’s first book “Every room should sing” presents Heuman’s innovative approach and provides a dynamic look into her work. Vibrant photographs showcase standout properties–including several London town houses and a Nantucket vacation residence–that are brought to life by cheerful color palettes, unexpected contrasts, and a dégagé use of bold patterns and texture. Our new wallpaper Nettle is inspired by a 16th century botanical print of the humble nettle weed, which we have re-imagined and drawn as a grand, scrolling pattern in a larger scale than our Nettle fabric. Scandinavian design has a worldwide reputation for the effortless combination of classical restraint and warm materials. Organized according to design principle, each chapter offers fresh ways to think about decorating a home, finding your voice, making ordinary details extraordinary, and forging a truly unique space.
