The three-piece paddle is easy to assemble and disassemble, with little logos to guide you along the way and a handy height guide for adjusting the length correctly. I’m definitely on the heavier side (98kg), but not tall 5’7″, I’d like to take a 30kg dog with me and gear at times. There are three handles on the Bluefin 10’8’’ Cruise, making it really easy to transport it and carry it to the water once inflated. It also facilitates the rider to move around on the board without any bowing or flexing that could destabilize them.

For these reasons, electric pumps are our top recommended accessory for all paddleboards, and are definitely worth considering for the Bluefin Cruise 10’8’’ SUP! Having this raised gives you more confidence that you aren’t going to slip off the back of the board when doing the step back down.

The material itself feels supple and has a nice lustre to it; of course it rolls up tightly without crinkles and creases.

You can’t purchase the board separately, which is why I think it’s particularly ideal if you’re new to SUPing and are after the entire kit, or, if you love going on adventures and are in need of something compact. For our part, we think that the majority of paddlers out there who use this SUP will find it very stable, though those taller than 6’ may find it a bit too small and may want to consider going with the 12’ Cruise instead. Bluefin build boards with layers of PVC to provide strength, unlike cheaper boards which only have one layer. Inflated SUP in the garage when it arrived in May to make sure it would be water worthy when the weather improved in Seattle.The sheer surface area of the rail means a strong gust can push the board off course, or a bit of awkward side chop can make it feel rather wobbly for a second or 2. If you are used to solid SUP, be aware that inflatables are a little trickier to balance on, but once you get used to it, it's actually a lot more fun to ride than a solid board. We were super impressed with the paddle in this package as it’s really developed from the previous range; the paddle is still fibreglass but is much lighter and more dynamic than before.

If you are an accessory junkie, you have plenty of places to attach your add-ons to thanks to the layout of the Bluefin 10’8’’ Cruise. I’m used to the screw in Powerbox, US or FCS fin systems that feel super secure and I have 100% confidence my fin isn’t going to fall out during the session.

With it, you’ll be able to move a foot back and have the support you need to push the tail into the water, all without ever having to look down.

If you have a large group of friends but can only take 1 paddleboard then the 18ft Mammoth board is one to look at, great for group activities and can fit 10 people on deck at once for some serious paddling teamwork. Thankfully, the valve is one way, so once you remove the pump it doesn’t gush back out, but can be opened up for a quick deflation also.Both boards perform really well on the water, but the Blackfin XL is a little more stable, and lighter. If you don’t think paddle weight matters much, you will after you go several miles with a heavy paddle… The carbon fiber paddle also has good construction. The process takes just a couple minutes and this setup is a great way to introduce people to the sport, without having them actually stand up on a device they’re not yet familiar with. The Blackfin Model X scored higher for us because the Bluefin Cruise Carbon is honestly pretty heavy in comparison.
