About this deal

I wanted to give the c2 massage gun a proper try, so I decided to use it throughout an entire 12 week training programme. What's more, it offers convenient USB-C charging and comes with a smart carry case – ideal for post-flight massaging or taking to and from the gym.

It’s probably overkill for the average gym goer but for serious athletes, this is the crème de la crème. Despite its size, the Hypervolt Go2 can still compete with the big boys, blowing our testers away with its strength. If you’re a serious athlete wanting a powerful machine, note the amplitude — the higher the number, measured in millimetres, the more deeply the massage gun can hit. The PRO is also slightly lighter and 20% quieter than its predecessor, while still being much more powerful than its fellow Therabody guns. Our expert was impressed with how quiet it was and appreciated the accompanying video guides, helping them get the most out of the device. The handle is a little short, making it difficult to soothe aching lower back muscles, but it's compact enough to massage your legs fully, making it a top pick for runners. It comes with five massage heads and is the only machine to feature an effective – if ever so slightly creepy – four-finger attachment that simulates a human hand. It comes with eight head attachments – the highest number on our list – allowing you to target specific areas and fine tune your recovery. Coming in pink, mint green and black, this sleek massage gun not only looks the part, but it also proved highly effective during our tests.

We welcomed the compact carry case, which fits all the different attachments and charger neatly inside, and the device itself was easy to operate thanks to a conveniently placed control button and detailed instructions. They were also impressed with the design – it's lightweight, the controls couldn’t be simpler to use, and there's plenty of power (especially on the highest setting).Interestingly, I’ve never found the air cushion head to be particularly useful when testing other massage guns – it’s usually an attachment that you add to a flat head or ball head, and it does alleviate pressure slightly but generally makes little different. They also said it was sufficiently powerful, providing instant relief from soreness, even at lower speeds. It will help you recover faster, boost your circulation and lymphatic drainage, increase your flexibility and extend your range of motion – ultimately improving your performance across the board.

With USB-C charging and a 10-minute auto-off mode to save battery, it has all the bells and whistles you’d expect from larger, pricier designs. Our expert found it ultra quiet, so you can tend to sore muscles with minimal fuss, and its small stature doesn't make it any less powerful. Over to Vic Paterson, a soft tissue therapist and co-founder of State 11 Soft Tissue Therapy, to explain how massage guns work in simple terms. To get the benefits of heat for less cash, we also loved the HoMedics myti mini massage gun, which is lighter and more portable too. But don’t let its modest proportions fool you — this massage gun boasts ample power and is able to move smoothly over skin while soothing muscles after arduous runs. Like our winning HoMedics massager, this shiny new Pulseroll model boasts a heated head, with two temperature settings (45C or 55C) that deliver heat and percussive therapy to your tired, achy muscles.

The attachments are easy to get on and off, and it lasts for ages on a charge (I’ve not actually had to recharge it yet and I’ve used it loads! You’ll also want a range of speed settings – at least three, but ideally more for tackling both delicate and robust muscle groups. The heated one reaches 47C in less than two minutes and feels heavenly on sore muscles, immediately making the massage more effective. You can link the Mini with the extensive Therabody app for a variety of tutorials and guided routines to get the most out of your massager. It’s small and fairly light at 680g, so could easily be slipped into your gym bag if you want to massage muscles mid-exercise or the moment you finish. For example, if my quads were sore after an especially tough leg workout, I’d spend a bit of time on them that evening.
