About this deal

The Justice League doesn't fare any better as Superman's gutted by Kryptonite and Failsafe lures the others into a trap. Serving as a spiritual expansion on creator Mark Waid’s JLA: Tower of Babel, this volume introduces a fearsome new enemy born from Batman’s own fear of himself if he was ever to do the unthinkable, to cross that line he has always set for himself and his allies, that is to never kill. His lack of foresight inevitably results in Failsafe becoming a ticking time bomb that can't be defused under any circumstance.

When Batman (Bruce Wayne), already tormented by nightmares of a future he can’t stop, witnesses Robin (Tim Drake) go through a near-death experience, unearthing terrible tragedies from deep within his mind, he goes after the person behind it all only to inadvertently fall into a trap where he’s framed for murder. At the end of his analysis, Gayen wrote: "Chip Zdarsky uses the debut issue of Batman: The Knight to propel Bruce Wayne on a lengthy trial to strengthen his mind, soul, and body". It makes for a boring reading experience where we’re just going through the motions without any sort of emotional investment.

This scene could’ve carried a lot more weight if the creative team had taken the time to show us the emotional side of Tim’s journey and how much effort he has to put into this. Last month I thought that Red Mask was getting more interesting, but this month the character gets ruined for me. Life can turn out to be a game with devastating consequences without exploring worse-case scenarios and elaborating contingency plans.

Publishers Weekly: Do you find that you generally operate better when you have multiple projects to jump between? The scene in the late part of the story where Batman manages to find his way back to Earth (without benefit of a spaceship) was a bit much to accept. The pursuit of answers becomes a heart-pounding journey, one that keeps readers on the edge of their seats as they navigate through twists, turns, and unexpected revelations. While the beginning was incredibly strong, the reason for Failsafe being fully activated this time was lame, and it got waaaay too over the top after a while. He has seen upcoming outlines, and has been able to work with them, suggested ideas and be a cheerleader for the new Daredevil team.comic) Batman and Robin (comic) Batman and Robin Eternal (comic) Batman/Superman (comic) Batman v Superman (General Mills) Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (comic) Batman: Arkham Unhinged Batwing (comic) Catwoman (comic) Detective Comics (comic) Earth 2 (comic) Earth 2: Society (comic) Gotham Academy (comic) Gotham Academy: Second Semester (comic) Gotham by Midnight (comic) Grayson (comic) Harley Quinn (comic) Injustice: Gods Among Us (comic) Injustice: Gods Among Us: Ground Zero (comic) Justice League (comic) Justice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (comic) Justice League of America (Rebirth) Mother Panic (comic) New Suicide Squad (comic) Nightwing (comic) Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death (comic) Red Hood/Arsenal (comic) Red Hood and the Outlaws (comic) Robin: Son of Batman (comic) Teen Titans Go! But Zur also failed to consider what might happen in the scenario that Alfred passes away prior to Failsafe's activation. Chip Zdarsky has begun his Batman run in a way that’s pulled me in similarly to how Snyder did with his Court of Owls. The backup story, by Zdarsky and artist Leonardo Romero, takes Batman back to his early years, revisiting his most psychedelic and mind breaking period, and the dawn of his first backup system of protection, Zur-En-Arrh! This volume, like a beacon in the night, beckons readers to explore its pages, inviting them to partake in a thrilling journey that uncovers the intricacies of Gotham’s enigmatic and shadowy realm.

After a scientist tampers with Batman's mind, he gets terrified of what he'd be capable of doing, if he lost control, so he creates this secondary personality, as a safety measure. Having always been a die-hard fan of his artistic style, artist Jorge Jiménez achieves once more a gorgeous portrayal of Batman’s universe. Batman's need to be ready for everything really gets himself into trouble and just how he deals with the that threat is part of the fun. The second half is drawn by Jorge Jiminez, and it’s fun to see him approach Batman in so many different styles, paying homage to other artists and depictions of the character. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. It’s a story of youthful hubris and what happens when decisions from our past come back to haunt us. When Bruce tries to justify his decision to create plans against the League, Superman asks Batman what the contingencies against himself are. As far as kick offs go, Zdarsky's explosive first arc on DC's flagship title aims less for grandeur and more of the the same grounded, emotional character work that he's been bringing to Marvel's Daredevil title.
