About this deal

By submitting a review you grant us the right to display and use it in any way; please read our General Legal Notices for full details. Also within the pages of this exquisite collection is a special letter from Oliver Jeffers and more than 100 wonderfully distinctive sketches, notes and ideas, carefully chosen from his archives and revealed here for the first time. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. One funny thing is I came up with this story soon after ‘Don’t Worry, Little Crab’ and I later I realised the two stories are almost mirror opposites to each other in a number of ways.

This involving, laugh-out-loud tale of monkeys who don’t do as they are told features funny faces, intense colour and a lesson about risk. Each card is blank for your own message, and contains a small paragraph on the reverse with Daniel's creative thinking behind the image. Once they check that there are no tigers about they decide that it’s not enough to look at the mangoes but maybe it’s okay to just take the one mango that’s so close to the tree.

Actually, this turned out to be quite a productive line of thinking because as well as this story I also came up with two other potential stories which I hope to shape up enough to publish over the next while. I am quite please with the one I eventually settled on: “For the things we have to learn before we can do, we learn by doing” - Aristotle. What’s more if there are lots of mangos and one is just a short distance away, it’d be a pity not to pick it, wouldn’t it? I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books.Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. I love Haughton’s use of colour in this book, the monkeys are a contrast to the bright reddish world of their jungle and I love how you can see the expression on their faces which are especially funny when they are wondering if maybe something will be okay. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly!
