About this deal

It’s another blast of a story – a totally unbelievable but absolutely entertaining episode which appears to be the last.

As mentioned there are guest appearances from DCI Jack Logan and the team but if you are expecting them to be in the entire book as main characters they are not… they are simply guests and the main event is Hoon and the craziness that he gets up to. But a lot of people like that lingering in a place and establishing the scene, so it fascinates me how different readers respond to different ways of writing.I absolutely love the characters in this series and it was great to have a little more crossover between this series and the DCI Logan one. I say every time this was the best but this has to be the number 1 ,I will not walk through east gate the same again without thinking of hoon and bertas traumatic event he really is a lovable but rather annoying individual . Unlike the previous books, where Hoon frequently finds himself on the back foot being beaten up or even tortured, here - much like John McLean, who is referenced so I’m sure it’s not coincidence, stays one step ahead by using his particular set of skills - or those of his friends - to outwit the villains. Here was a character so thoroughly unpleasant that even if readers enjoyed his scenes, surely they couldn’t cope with a full length novel in which he took centre stage?

The whole series ran out of steam in book 3 and this book, the fourth in the series is weak both in content and plot. What was it that took you down that path of publishing, and what kind of benefits do you think it grants you as the author? We set up a limited company, contacted foreign rights sales agents, TV rights agents, we’ve now got a PR company involved. Then when people were asking about merchandise, I had all the rights, so I did T-shirts, mugs, and we were able to exploit audio fully, because a lot of my books the audio rights were with the publishers but they never did anything with them.

You may not know this about me… BUT I love Die Hard and I DO think its a Christmas movie… fight me if you don’t (just kidding 🤣) but seriously it is my go to Christmas movie… what can I say Bruce Willis Yippy Kai Ayying all over the place blowing sh*t up just screams Christmas to me… my point…. The Hoon books were always meant to be fun, I mean they go dark at points, but it’s always been me having an absolute blast writing them. I am looking forward to reading more of the Logan and hopefully Hoon novels and books from Kirk’s other pen names.

For example, with the JD Kirk group, a lot of the readers are older and are on Facebook and some were alone at Christmas, so we did a kind of Christmas get-together. Took me 3 weeks to read half the book and just an hour to finish the last half day time reading is probably my best time . Didn't think that we were going to be having a zombie in this book but by the cover art, I wondered. After being repeatedly beaten, shot at, blown-up, and tortured, Hoon is looking forward to spending a quiet Christmas drinking heavily in front of the TV, while pointedly ignoring the older sister who has invaded his home. They are a wonderful mixture of action and comedy (with a lot of swearing and gore, but so worth it) and they just get better as the series progresses. Unfortunately, this was my first book from JD Kirk, and I have bought two more seeing the hue and cry about this series.

I want to warn readers that this story is violent, bloody, brutal and full of language, the language just as strong as the others, and if not more violent, by far more gory. JD Kirk lives in the Highlands of Scotland with his wife, two children, and a number of sturdy umbrellas. I suppose it’s been like a tour of all my writing inspirations as well, so it goes through books I’ve read, films I’ve seen, and there’s little winks and nods to those, down all the way to things like how my daughter’s really into anime and there’s little nods to that in there. Like Die Hard it takes place during a single day, and what we at first think is happening is by far not the whole story. So for those who may not know, you self-publish your crime fiction through Zertex Media, and to massive success.Like most kids’ authors, most of my income came from doing school events, and I got asked to go to a school in Elgin and talk about how kids can publish their own books. Then we went away on holiday, and Space Team started outselling all my kids’ books, but I’d done no marketing for it. More foul mouthed fun with disgraced former police officer and general mad bastard at large Bob Hoon. For those that don’t mind it or do find it amusing then dive in… I recommend reading the other four books in the series but you don’t have to you could read this as a standalone but perhaps some of the references and characters will go over your head… but there is plenty of action and fun and wild stuff going on to keep you occupied if you just want to dive in at the end.
