About this deal

Letts takes readers on an unflinching journey between hardship and hope, with a catch-your-breath ending. She was 77 year old Maud Baum, determined they were not going to make a movie of her husband’s book without her on set. The film was released with Central Intelligence on June 17, 2016, in 4,305 theaters: 3,200 in 3D, approximately 100 in IMAX, and 425 in premium large format.

The story came from Frank’s pencil, true enough, but it was as inseparable from the both of them as they were from each other. Not only was it a bit depressing, it was also slow moving at times, and I felt some segments could have been shortened. Now, with the young actress under pressure from the studio as well as her ambitious stage mother, Maud resolves to protect her—the way she tried so hard to protect the real Dorothy. It went on to top the box office there for three straight weekends, tying with Inferno in its third weekend. Frank’s stories were a gift and he intended them to bring joy and pleasure, which they did, for children and adults alike. So about 2010 when we were getting Finding Nemo ready for the 10-year re-release in 3D, it was interesting to watch again after all that time. Torbin Xan Bullock as Gerald, a California sea lion, who wants to lie on the rock occupied by Fluke and Rudder only to be constantly repelled by them. As Maud waited for the elevator, her blurry reflection looked back at her from the shining brass of the twin doors.

In a July 2013 interview with Los Angeles Times, Stanton spoke of the sequel's origin: "There was polite inquiry from Disney [about a Finding Nemo sequel]. Once in a while a book comes along that fires your imagination and warms your heart, Finding Dorothy was that book for me.More than just a behind-the-scenes pee at the making of The Wizard of Oz, Finding Dorothy is a heartfelt look at the origins of a beloved story told, through the eyes of the woman closest to its creator. Written as fiction but based closely on the truth, Elizabeth Letts’s new book tells a story of love, loss, inspiration, and perseverance, set in America’s heartland.
