It plugs into your broadband router and connects all of your Hive devices wirelessly so they can be easily controlled remotely. Helpfully, the developer gave us absolutely no info on the controls so I've had to do a bit digging myself.

However, you won’t be able to control your heating using the Hive app until your internet comes back online. Got a new hive thermostat yesterday as well, and somewhat confused to find it won’t stand up by itself cos of little sticky out bit at the bottom. Issue with HW not sparking boiler/pump in to action initially, but once hub/app etc all linked and logged in it works fine (coincidence or delay in system sync? Boiler IQ is a device that continuously monitors your boiler 24/7 and alerts you when your boiler fails to produce heat or hot water.

If your boiler works with a standard room thermostat and / or programmer then a Hive Thermostat can control it. For most homes, we’ll be able to generate a forecast within seconds by linking your British Gas Smart meter account, and by using historical data from our Hive thermostat. I wanted to print my own custom frames for my Hive thermostat but there doesn't appear to be any models online so I decided to create my own in Fusion 360.

Hive Support were initially very helpful, and sent out a plate, but unfortunately it was for a thermostat. Just moved into a new build and I'm trying to learn a bit more about the controls for the central heating.

Total time about an hour, now have thermostat in a room where it is more effective, and a lot more control of usage. The Guide states that WR1 receivers, and UT2 or EMT2 timers are compatible, so I assume that they have compatible backplates which are the same dimensions, but have more space.

Hive Thermostats can’t be installed with it unless the engineer removes the Valliant external controller. I fitted my first hive a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was the most stupid thing to fit in the world, absolutely no instructions in any of the three things you have to fit.Then set the Temperature you need and this Thermostat will keep you heater at this temp :-) This DIY tool made off stuff lying around is used by me to heat up Heaters such as Hot End and Heat Beds from 3d printers. After my second conversation, it appears that there is no such thing as a Stand-Off Plate (referred to as 'SP') in the Hive Thermostat Installation Guide. Backplate and existing wiring meant straight swap (Backplate was a bit of a squeeze, so swapped for new one anyway, as easy to do). Changing to hive or tado or something else might be the answer, but if I can get the basic functionality needed just with a different model of what I've got then I hope that'll be simpler.

To install Hive Multizone you would need an existing multi-zone set up within your home or have the relevant work done in your home.

I work away from home a lot so would definitely be interest in a straight swap for something more WiFi enable to control remotely. You can manage your heating using the Hive app wherever you are, including boosting your heating and creating schedules. This is within an acceptable range and it does not appear to be significantly affecting the overall rating for this product. It appears that the control circuit of the boiler is extra low voltage, maybe 24V and must not be connected tot he mains supply.
