The Black Knight is a bleak story which I don’t especially care for but I do like the way it concludes. There were a few stories that were very good and I would have liked them to have made decent novels but generally this book dragged. I enjoyed the first group much better than the second as there’s a really good mix of stories and the theme is evident throughout. Some of those around us had already lowered their seatbacks and wrapped blankets around themselves, others sat with faces lit by the video screens in front of them and waited for their meal. He stretches into some speculative fiction concepts in “The Cicadas” and in “The Shredder,” and takes the big concepts of multiple timelines and of eternal life and turns them into very human, albeit very dark, stories. Among the heroes of Nesbø there are both cynics and simpletons, but they always act unpredictably - even for themselves, because human logic is powerless in front of the green-eyed monster.
