About this deal

Most notably, Seamus Martin from The Irish Times has described the book as “infuriatingly selective with the truth”. The overall view of the malignant narcissist is he is delusional, isolated and possibly unstable due to medication. Some of it is speculative but hard to avoid than given how closed a society Russia is and Sweeney makes his case well. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because mixed with the many factual data is a mix of gossip and speculation (X said Y but only one source for it so hard to validate).

It does not really add anything new to what we know about the "killer in the Kremlin" but the former BBC investigative reporter produces a devastating charge sheet against his arch nemesis. At first I was worried this book wouldn’t offer much which was new, but Sweeney’s career holding Putin to account, as well as his highly personable writing style, ensured there was much new material to learn from in this book. There are sources listed at the back of the book but no footnotes which make some of the sources or claims difficult to follow up. He gives oxygen to multiple conspiracies about Putin’s wealth, mental state, personal health and sexual interests. It is anyone’s guess as to where this war will take Putin and Russia, let alone Zelensky and Ukraine.

John has profoundly provided a gift for all mankind to an awareness of the courageous who went before us, for all of us! While this is only a short paragraph in the book, I think it’s the kind of interesting detail that paints a vivid picture of Putin. Deliveries to destinations outside Australia are made by DHL courier, and cannot be made to post office boxes. Sweeney has been an outspoken critic of Putin for decades and Killer in the Kremlin is a culmination of this. I was especially interested by the idea that Putin has always seen Russia at war with the West and has acted with a warlike mindset, but the West has not shared this mindset until recently, allowing Putin to gain more international influence due to leaders’ underestimation of him.Far too many do not take into account the evilness of Putin and the deaths that he has not only caused but actually directed.

John Sweeney is an award-winning journalist and author, who brings a novel to the layman that truly confirms the Russian powers mindset - "Oderint dum metuant. As far as the validity of Sweeney and his claims in the book, he has been credited as an award-winning journalist who has years of experience in the field. It really showed how he perceives power and how poorly the west understood these stupid games of his. As Odette Sansom (I think that’s how it’s spelt) once said the host is dead but not the parasite referring to the aggression she saw after the end of the second world war. He has helped free seven people falsely convicted of killing babies, starting with Sally Clark and Angela Cannings.the never-ending exploitation of thousands of still unrepentant, greedy, non-Russian useful idiots, ignorant of the true nature of the new Russian authorities, etc.
