By rejecting non-essential cookies, Reddit may still use certain cookies to ensure the proper functionality of our platform. As a reader, there’s never a moment you feel compelled to root against Lamora and his crew - the moral ambiguity of their actions balanced by their inherent likability. Slightly built and barely competent with a sword, Locke Lamora is, much to his annoyance, the fabled Thorn.

Locke Lamora, the erstwhile Thorn of Camorr, and Jean Tannen have fled their home city and the wreckage of their lives. It gave me the blessing of feeling like a kid again, snuggled up with a book, wondering how the hell 10pm became 4am. A poor condition book can still make a good reading copy but is generally not collectible unless the item is very scarce. Description: [publisher: London Gollancz 2011] Hardcover First Edition First edition thus, first printing in the Gollancz Top Fifty series.Used - Acceptable: All pages and the cover are intact, but shrink wrap, dust covers, or boxed set case may be missing. Fortunately, Chains has a few secrets of his own, and thus begins the tale of The Thorn of Camorr…At it’s heart, ’The Lies of Locke Lamora’ is a heist novel garbed in fantasy fashions. Known as the Gray King, he is slowly killing Capa Barsavi's most trusted men--and using Locke as a pawn in his plot to take control of Camorr's underworld.

Locke, with his exceptional skills in scheming and plotting makes for a fitting leader after the departure of Father Chains. All of Locke's gains are strictly for himself and his tight-knit band of thieves: The Gentlemen Bastards. There's a mysterious forgotten race, a fascinating religion system, a hierarchy of classes that separates the nobles from the common folks and then there's food with description so vivid that causes salivation on the very thought of them. beware writing too much inside, the font is very small, but overall a great gift with a lot of sentiment behind it. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. This is so refreshing compared to the typical fantasy story that is set in a generic medieval style country.

Built of Elderglass by a race no-one remembers, it's a city of shifting revels, filthy canals, baroque palaces and crowded cemeteries. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by all these information, I was mesmerised throughout by how natural and how well suited they are to the story. They find neither, but just when all their luck, money, and hope seem exhausted, they receive an offer from a power that has never had their best interests at heart: The Bondsmagi of Karthain.

If a mash-up of Joe Abercrombie’s ’The Blade Itself’ and Brandon Sanderson’s ’Mistborn: The Final Empire’ strikes you as an intriguing proposition, then look no further - Scott Lynch has you covered.

It was great to learn how powerful the Bondsmagi are and then the next chapter opens with Locke swearing at one of these mighty Bondsmagi. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Author of the internationally best-selling Gentleman Bastard sequence, Scott has been nominated for the World Fantasy Award, the Locus Award, the Campbell Award, and the Compton Crook Award.
