About this deal

I don't know how but I took a knock to my rear exhaust mount pushing it almost parallel with the ground and pretty much folding the bobbin at right angles. Think I've replaced one in 15yrs since build - lots of use in all weather, and lives outside most of the time. Used to use Mini bobbins on the standard Westfield exhaust, but found them to be a bit of a consumable item. It might be something to think about though I still can't quite work out how it happened in the first place.

And as you point out, most exhaust systems are suspended on rubber, but the original Mini bobbin I believe was intended to suspend the exhaust in tension rather than to be used under the exhaust in compression as on our cars, and with nasty shear and torsional loads if the exhaust and chassis brackets are even slightly misaligned or out of parallel.I could have it modified to weld one on I guess but it would have been a little messy as that bolt hole in the chassis for the centre mount is right where my silencer clamp and lambda boss are.

So, I'd like to get this sorted, I've no problem with taking it to a Mini-friendly garage if necessary, as it's probably a bit beyond my capabilities to sort it myself.i got the arches from huddersfield spares, they recommended them to go with my 6x12 revs and the rubber strip came with them. I planned to sandwich each of the 26mm wide rubber bushes between 25mm M8 stainless penny washers to distribute the load evenly. with a bit of thought you should be able to use an rc40 kit to make it fit better, you may also need a bracket at the front on the gearbox housing to hold it up at the front too.

A belted hanger for a Ford 3/4 ton pickup truck was cut to length and used at the front of the rear subframe. really sorry again mate, if your interetsed in the other bits i might have cheap let me know and ill rummage in the shed. My exhaust bobbins (poly bushing mounts for exhaust hangers) failed on the way home and my exhaust dragging on the freeway was enough to make me pull over and investigate. The key to getting a reasonable life out of them was to set them up so that there is minimal strain on the bobbin.
