About this deal

Although wireless networking technology is now largely familiar, wired networking still has its place in office environments or locations where Wi-Fi reception is poor, for example. Ethernet cables, which provide high-speed data connections between PCs, are a modified form of telephone cabling with a high capacity RJ45 connector. If you've got an alarm linked to your phone line, please let your provider know that this work might trigger a false alarm. Stage 2 - Work to complete the fibre installation in your home Cables made to the BT specification typically feature paired 0.5mm insulated copper conductors, but the number can vary hugely, from as little as 2 to as many as 200. The insulating sheath is normally PVC, but you may also see: What is the signal's condition at the moment? (it's a run of unknown length, with an unknown transceiver at the other end) I have what should be a simple question but struggle to find an answer for - which I need before my upcoming contract renewal (or not).

The RJ11 telephone cable is an international standard and the best option for connecting single telephone lines to single devices. It is used in domestic and commercial settings in the UK and around the world We can use a 30m extension cable, but it can only go along walls - not under carpets or floors - so please move any furniture that's in the way To connect more than one device to your phone line, you'll need a splitter. The splitter must connect to the phone part of the microfilter A variation of the standard, the CW1308B, has reinforced insulation for use both outdoors and indoors. This resists not only weather but also UV (ultraviolet) light. It's good to have the equipment close to your TV to make the most of broadband TV services. Or in the room next to your main computer

You can only compare up to four products at a time.

This works well for me and I do not wish to lose this capability when renewing and being advised I need to go to Digital Voice (which some people have ended up with locally without proper explanation from BT who just sent the DV phone). If you're trying to connect a BT TV box, this connects via Ethernet to your BT Hub. Find out more about setting up BT TV > If we need to visit, the engineer will recommend where to put the equipment, but it will speed up your installation if you think about where you want it to go. Before leaving, the engineer will reconnect one of your computers to demonstrate that it's working OK. The engineer will also help you install the set-up disk on your computer. They'll leave you with this disk so that you can install the software on any other computers you've got.

This stage usually happens seven working days after stage one, and you'll need to be at home to let the engineer in. The appointment will last up to four hours. This said... you could get a coupler, and a "singlemode" SC/APC cable (if our suspicions are correct about the connector and fiber type). This might work, but due to the nature of what you're dealing with, we cannot be sure. Here in the UK, BT has established a number of commonly used telephone cable specifications. These are known as the CW1308 standard. This is used to provide your voice and broadband service. It's also known as an Optical Network Termination box or ONT.

What is phone cable used for? You might think the answer is straightforward - telephones! Of course, they are central, but this type of cabling also has other uses. These include: I appreciate your replay but I really want to know how BT will ensure they provide all the needed equipment and ensure the extensions keep working - without that assurance I will keep as I am for as long as possible. Your phone and broadband service may stop working briefly during this work, so it's a good idea to have a mobile handy. Will adding a coupler and an extra length degrade the signal such that the link is no longer stable / operational?

First of all, we'll connect a fibre cable to a small box that we'll fix to your outside wall, close to where your phone line enters your home. We'll drill a small hole in your wall to push the cable through, before covering it tidily with the box.

Some other TV services need a phone line, in which case the TV box must connect to the phone part of your microfilter. Please refer to your user guide or TV service provider for help LSOH or LSZH (low smoke zero halogen). Hydrogen chloride - a halogen, or salt-producing chemical element - is another dangerous gas emitted by some types of PVC when it burns or melts. It can cause breathing difficulties and lung damage if inhaled or skin burns if touched. If mixed with water it will form hydrochloric acid. LSOH insulation will emit neither fumes nor halogen in the event of a fire

I have never had this level of detail of advice when talking to the BT sales/contract renewal people. My question is simple (I hope) - if I renew and the copper analogue is turned off to the property can I just connect my distribution box to the router for the phone extensions keep working - unless a way to maintain the functionality of the current extensions can be guaranteed I have no interest in renewing at the moment (I realise I will need to eventually). The external work may have already been completed to your house, so all that remains is to complete the fibre installation in your home. You'll need to be at home to let the engineer in. The appointment will last up to four hours.
