About this deal

Encre Noire delivers what it promises for sure. The very beginning does in fact smell like something one might associate with ink, but also filled me with a sense of impending doom in a way. It's very gothic and solemn. I decided to use it while going to the movie theater to watch Oppenheimer and it was perfectly fitted to the atmosphere of the story, so I guess it may tell you a lot about its nostalgic, but eerily gloomy fragrance profile.

I won't use this now, I am for sure to young for this. Maybe when I hit 29 onwards, I will buy this. It's kind of, 'powerful' scent. Sycomore is best in the opening. The top notes are sharp, smoky, sweet, but most of all, clear. There is something urban and glamorous about it. The opening is a gust of cold wind on a Friday night in late November, giving you a refreshing slap on the face as you step out of the warmth of your car, and set on your way to wherever the celebration is tonight. It expands your lungs and makes you breath deep, with a full chest. You notice a sweetness to it, which reminds you that the holidays are coming. As you walk, you see the mannequins in the department store windows and pretty people on the streets. All is nice and relaxing except the temperature is a bit too high, the sky is overcast with dark storm clouds and everything seems just a bit too quiet. To me vetiver smells like dry white woods, like ceder, with a leathery accent. Like there might be some hints of rain (not in the aquatic way), but the woods are dry. First sniff this reminded me of bently for men intense, but smelling them side by side, while in the very broad ballpark of scent family, they smell entirely different and my scent memory was deceiving me. Might be there’s some vetiver in the bently’s leather accord though. But to make my point, to me, vetiver smells that leathery. Like if you primed me by telling me this smells like leather, I’d have accepted it and wood would probably never have even entered my mind.Personally, I like even L'extreme even better than the EN EdT, because it has more Bums and lasts longer. At the beginning it was dry and leaning masculine, but it developed into a wonderful powdery scent, so I would risk saying the drydown is more feminine. It becomes very tame at one point, but still intriguing and one gets wafts of the smell from time to time. It lingers for a while. As I mentioned, I Wear Encre Noire a lot in the winter, but I’ve recently worn it a lot less, getting used to other scents for spring time and (hopefully) warmer weather. This also has the benefit that I don’t think I’ve gone as noseblind to the notes in Encre Noire as I could have. What happened was that I became disenchanted with Encre Noire. BORING. So I stopped using it, until recently discovering that it makes a great layering fragrance. And then I decided to revisit Sycomore and see if my mind had changed. To me, this is very reminiscent of a wooded forest at dawn, in mid-Autumn. Wet, herbal, and incredibly woodsy. Wet orange leaves peppering the forest floor, that is covered with moss and mushrooms. There's even an accord that reminds me of the rising fog at dawn.

My experience so far is happily similar to the majority: so far so good, and so, so wood. Buy it, and if you don’t like it on its own, layer it. Uniqueness: 9.0 (unique as a strong vetiver dark and earthy fragrance; of course, I am not considering its flankers) That said, in my younger years I was pretty big into metal, the more gothic, darker and forestry kinds. I’ve since outgrown the style, but retained a liking for the music and general atmosphere. This part is what made me pull the trigger and blindbuy this. And, I’m happy I did.

My favorite note of all time is cypress, but I've never been able to find a wonderful, dark, lush cypress note that lasts and isn't paired with vile citruses... In the drydown it melds more and becomes smoother, smokier more ambery. This smells good, like really good. After a couple of sprays, you notice a magnificent imposing gloomy cypress. The vetiver middle notes make themselves noticed almost immediately, embracing the cypress without choking it.

It would suit any person who has years of experience wearing fragrances, unisex fragrances. This lasts an incredibly long time but it screams "night" so I would imagine it's best worn in the afternoon and evening as you wear the same formal suit to the same event. It has an autumnal air and is best worn in the late summer and throughout the Fall. Sycomore enhances the most beautiful aspects of the pure vetiver extract, but adds a particular Chanel chicness to make it into an utterly wearable work of art. Longevity is great for an EDT, I do a few replenishments throughout the day but I would do that with most EDT’s. I really enjoy it sprayed on clothes (particularly wool & cashmere). I got hold of a mini splash bottle a while ago and to begin with, all I could smell was stale cigarette smoke/ashtray.. Wait.. did I just see something in between those old, mossy pine trees over there? A witch perhaps?Based on past experiences, vetiver is often blended with citruses and to a lesser extent with other less-common notes such as tobacco. Sycomore goes against both of these trends and blends with other woods and juniper berries. The result is an unbelievably luscious dry-down and a very smoky opening. I am not too keen on the opening but it is still reminiscent of that wood fire on the beach - a picture that reminds me of corn on the cob roasted on coal just by the beach, being enjoyed right after a barbecue. Very nicely done and much more bearable than other smoky scents. A wonderful faint woody scent remains on your clothes even a day after wearing it, which seems to call out to you 'wear me again today!'. My final impression is that its a Cypress forward scent, with a vetiver base. In the opening and mid drydown its smokey but it loses it in the final phase. It is still an incredibily unique, evocative, nostalgic, dark, bitter green, artistic perfume. Maceration made it smoother, more rounded and dry woody. I still maintain my opinion about the performance, it is average at best, atleast on my skin. It is not a powerfull perfume, and it shouldn't be. This is not a fragrance you spray everyday, it wouldn't do it justice. This is one to enjoy alone, when the mood calls for it. Thank heavens it wasn't the opening is very clean and sappy green aldehydes but with an instant spice to it. I'd say juniper and cypress in terms of notes listed here and you could be fooled by thinking this was a very lightweight fresh woody scent. Then the next few minutes of development, and a very focused smokey vetiver emerges. This dries everything out and combined with the gorgeous spicy edge of sandalwood makes for an extremely refined vetiver and up there with the best I've smelled. In terms of performance, ENALE seems to last most of the day, though projection is no more than moderate, at least in the dosages that I apply. Which is how I like it. BTW, I have to say that I love the flacon, too. It really does look kind of like a square ink bottle sitting on my desk, and the chunky, weighty glass is satisfying to heft in the hand. It seems almost impossible to comment on Sycomore without mentioning Encre Noire. Traditions must be obeyed, so here is my personal experience - appropriately copypasted from my Encre Noire review:

seperti Batman di Gotham City specifically in the dark alley: grunge, grieving, mysterious and assertive. The formal situations work best with Encre Noire Extreme. Dark suits, blazers, and surprisingly, white buttoned-up shirts go hand-by-hand with this dark juice. Pros and Cons First impression - all my fears vanished, I like it a lot, and I find nothing that might be polarizing, offensive or overpowering. Just a very very nice fall/winter/spring - vetiver/woody/slightly resinous smell that for me fits any occasion. Very slight sweetness to it compared to most other similar perfumes - which is actually a refreshing aspect and confers the "darkness" that everyone talks about. I agree - it is dark.I have my pre 2016 reformulated bottle chilled in the fridge to prevent spoilage. Encre Noire while similar is not the same. Encre remains linear and dark while Sycomore has multiple facets of light and fizz as it dries down. Nothing challenging... Nothing too strong, actually the first impression was that this is very weak, I couldn't smell much intensity but I liked very much what I smelled. Gave it another spray. - Better. While I had for Encre Noire Eau de Toilette exclusively praise left and crowned the fragrance as my previous favorite Cheapy, I can unfortunately not find the same words for Encre Indigo.
