About this deal

If you don’t already have a green team, use the ideas in this post to brainstormabout how you can introduce a green team in your organization. Discuss those ideas with colleagues, get approval from management, and begin recruiting for your team.

In Green Team Wins, players are trying to score the most points by answering questions and matching with the most popular answer. The gameplay takes place over 15 rounds. Everyone starts on the orange team. Each round a new question is drawn. Questions come in three types: Fill in the Blank, Best of Three, and This or That. If there’s a tie for the most popular answer, people on the Orange team with one of those answers get nothing. But, like it says, Green Team Wins. So people on the Green team with one of those answers gets two points. This is a party game. If you like party games, you will love this one. We honestly can’t think of anything we’d do any differently to make this game better.

Players secretly write their answers on their individual dry erase boards. Once all players have written down their answers, they reveal. Those who wrote the answer that was most popular, get a point and flips to the green team. Everyone else scores zero. In subsequent rounds, players who were on the green team and again match with the popular answer, stay green and score two points. If they do not match, they return to the orange team and score zero. So joining the green team gets you one point, staying on the green team gets you two points, and anything else gets you zero.

In Herd Mentality, everyone who is part of the clear majority scores 1 point, and the first player to 8 points wins. (In a tie, keep playing rounds until one player moves in front of everyone else.) However, the range of green team initiatives that you can undertake can include anything from organizing projects for employees to making recommendations to managementabout the company’s overall sustainability efforts. But if you’re a Green-teamer who does not answer the most popular answer, you flip to the Orange team. Now you’re on the Orange team, and get no points. One person flips over the first card and reads it out loud. I like to read them with dramatic effect, and it’s great when the immediate response is “Oh, man!” It’s just more fun that way – it’s a hard question.

Fill in the Blank presents you with a word, with an empty space before or after it: “Fire ____” or “_____ Night”. At your first meeting, it can be helpful to discuss two related topics: why you’re setting up a green team and why sustainability is important for your organization. But it's not about having the best answer, or the smartest answer, or the funniest answer. Only the most popular answer wins - the one that the most players at the table wrote down. Everyone will be asked the same question, then writes down their responses at the same time. All players with the winning answer join the Green Team and score points. If your answer is not the most popular among the other players, then you join the Orange Team and score zero points for that round. Players joining the Green Team from the Orange Team will score one point. Players who are on the Green Team and stay on it will earn two points.
