Whereas, I tend to like a lot of action to move the story forward, the emotional interactions between the characters, combined with action was something hard to put down. There were so many times that I found myself tearing up, but had to know what happened next. She says "My father regretted the way he treated my mother his entire life. Mistreating her was the worst mistake he had ever made and he said he would grow old and die still madly in love with her." Rather than trying to sugarcoat my thoughts, I'm just going to be completely honest. I was 100 percent team Ryle from the very first time we met him. Just like Lily, I fell in love with every word and every gesture that rolled off of his body. I. WAS. HOOKED. It also didn't help that I kept fantasizing Doctor Mike as Ryle Kincaid. *heart eyes emoji* I loved his ambition. His personality. His confidence. To be honest, I think I might've loved Ryle even more than Lily did but that's another story for another day. That more than likely explains why I took the second half of this book like a blow to the gut.

That being said, Colleen Hoover has a talent in that she can tap into that throughout an entire novel.Eventually when she does leave him she decides to tell her mother what happened and there's this thing that her mother said to her that moved me.. she said "I know you believe he loves you, and I'm sure he does. But he's not loving you the right way. He doesn't love you the way you deserve to be loved." And it's hard to read because as a bystander I just wanted to help Lily and tell her that she didn't have to forgive him and that she deserved better than that. But that's how the story goes.. She forgave him and told him that if he ever did that again that she would know it wasn't an accident and she would leave him!

Did not like that at all and definitely did not like how she just gave in and basically gave him what he wanted. Of course we then meet Ryle, Alyssa’s brother, there is a lot more to this guy than meets the eye, which is all I can say without spoiling too much. It Ends With Us was beautifully complicated. It was hot and cold. Up and down. Good and bad. Beautiful and ugly... I'm still trying to figure out how I really feel about it all because I'm genuinely torn on how I want to perceive this storyline. I loved it but in all honesty, I really do think I hate it as well. Not the "I-hate-you-Colleen-Hoover-stop-writing-books-and-find-a-different-career" type of hate but rather "I-hate-you-Colleen-Hoover-for-making-me-hate-everything-that-I-came-to-love" kind of hate because it pretty much summarizes all my thoughts and feelings about It Ends With Us in one sentence. Life is a funny thing. We only get so many years to live it, so we have to do everything we can to make sure those years are as full as they can be. We shouldn't waste time on things that might happen someday, or maybe even never.”

When Atlas (the blast from Lily’s past) appears it throws this whole story in a different direction. Of course, we meet him with young Lily and then again later in the book. Atlas has this smooth, quiet confidence about him. He comes from absolutely nothing and makes something out of himself. I admired and respected him and I fell for him big time! Finally, I liked that despite all the tragedy throughout the story; we were left with an optimistic end. It's the kind of story that normally ends with ambiguity as far as what the future holds. This gave us a direction to consider, and I liked that. Preventing your heart from forgiving someone you love is actually a hell of a lot harder than simply forgiving them. Even after almost being raped, leaving him and being mad at him, she can't help but want to be with him even though she knows it's not right. Becca: I know some of you may think that I always say this and yes I am a true CoHo fan, but this is by far her best work ever. It Ends With Us is so raw and full of emotions, but most of all it is honest. I cried… A LOT! And I am not talking a few tears or a quiet wimper… I am talking ugly crying that I couldn’t contain. The message it delivers is a powerful one and I know that this is a book that will stay with me forever. Please make sure that once you are done you read the Author note at the end, it will give you an even better view of this book afterward.

I have been there and had to make that same choice for the exact same reason, someone needs to break the cycle of abuse. Your authors note was just about as heart breaking as the story. I’m with you when you said you wanting to delete and start again. That you fell in love with Ryle. It was heartbreaking so read what he was doing. I felt the pain for both of them. But I think you were right in writing their story the way you did. The more these things are talked about, the more someone who hasn’t been in that position and start to understand, the more help there will be from normal everyday friends and family for people who end up in Lily’s position. And hopefully over time we can all help to break the cycle of things like this. Just because someone hurts you doesn't mean you can simply stop loving them. It's not a person's actions that hurt the most. It's the love. If there was no love attached to the action, the pain would be a little easier to bear.” Another thing that I found inspiring was the Lily character. Open to understanding that which she was never capable of understanding before. Also, as with the rest of the story; the understanding did not lead to buying into an excuse. Lily was gutsy and understanding at the same time. I found it something worth reading on and on through the entire book. There are times I am angry and times I am sad. And then I'm both. And it's the worst because there is a war raging inside me, and the winning side keeps changing. How is it possible to switch from denial to sorrow to fury to acceptance in a heartbeat?"
