About this deal

But I think that can be forgiven for the end result. These are, quite possibly, my favourite miniatures ever. I can’t wait to paint them. Scenery After that, the rest of the book is given over to rules, rules, and very more rules. There’s a huge amount of faction- and warzone-specific stuff contained in the Octarius book, so we won’t get into it here. It’s a heavy ol’ read, so not one for bedtime. Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team: Octarius Review – Wargear As a standalone release, Kill Team: Octarius is, without doubt, one of the most complete and iconic releases in recent Games Workshop history. The miniatures included in the set are some of the best Citadel have ever produced, and will have painters’ jaws dropping with their stunning character and detail. However, the new era of Kill Team that the box heralds includes many changes to the way the game works that will leave many fans feeling hard done by. Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team: Octarius Review – Introduction

In this article we’re going to talk about how to build good terrain layouts for kill team, providing advice for both players and tournament organizers looking to do layouts for events. Additionally, note that we’re going to be focusing mostly on classic Kill Team games and layouts – while much of this will also apply to Gallowdark/Into the Dark play, there are some specifics around that we’ll cover in future articles.Condit: These Kill Teams are incredibly cool. The Kill Teams in the Rogue Trader set from the last edition weren’t particularly inspiring from a rules perspective, but these two couldn’t be any more different. Both have a lot of great options and some cool objectives and campaign upgrades besides. If the options we’re seeing in this book are a sign of what’s to come with future Kill Team releases, we’re excited to see what’s coming down the pipe. They can’t help but be upstaged by the outrageous Ork Kommandos, though. I’m not a particularly huge Greenskins stan, but, in the personality stakes, the greenskins blow the kriegers out of the water here, with an endlessly lip-curling smorgasbord of chunky weaponry, big yellin’ faces, and scrapyard couture that you can’t help but love. Give them Ali G-style luminous camouflage threads, and I’ll give you an extra point.

The Kommando Nob is the Leader of your Kill Team (he doesn’t have the keyword in the Octarius book, but it has been FAQ’ed in since). Apart from the usual Leader bonuses of having more Wounds and a better Save than his crew, he also has the Get It Dun! ability that adds 1 to the Action Point Limit of 1 nearby friendly Kommando operative whenever the Leader is activated. He can also choose between two pretty powerful melee weapons, the Big Choppa and the Power Klaw, of which the Klaw is the more interesting one with its Brutal special rule which means opponents in close combat can only parry it with critical hit rolls. You have to take one Kommando Nob in your Kill Team, so make good use of him. Kommando Boy (9 allowed per Kill Team) Unlike games of 40K, in the new edition of Kill Team matches have three phases: Initiative, Strategic and Firefight. Many operatives also have Unique Actions on their datacards, with their own listed AP cost and effects Don’t put vantage in the Drop Zones. Many factions can get a lot of profit from having a vantage in their drop zone, and you want to avoid creating positions that are so safe an opponent doesn’t have to leave and interact with their opponent. The best thing to do is to avoid these if possible. Instead, put your vantage points in more central areas on the table. But there have been some quite significant changes to Kill Team with the announcement of the newest edition – and a lot of them have not been well received by the community.

This is difficult. This is supposed to be a review of a boxed game. And yeah, whilst I think the Kill Team: Octarius box, as an isolated release, is absolutely smashing, I am concerned what the wider changes to the new edition of Kill Team mean for players. Lets you turn a failed shooting dice roll into a normal success roll every time a friendly operative shoots in 1 Turning Point as long as that operative also rolled at least 1 critical hit in that shooting action. Waaagh! Upgrades for your Kill Team’s base, Assets give you benefits but add them as bonuses for your whole team. The Kommandos’ Loot Hoard lets grenade-equipped operatives lob two grenades per game rather than one, and the Veteran Guardsmen’s Preliminary Bombardment lets you call in a preliminary bombardment before the teams are set up, damaging a terrain feature and preventing enemy’s from setting up within 1” of it.
