About this deal

The Plagueburst Crawler comes with its signature weapon, the plagueburst mortar. This mortar is a heavy D6 plague weapon that can fire out of line of sight at S8 AP-2 D D3. You then get a choice of front mounted machine gun in the form of the Rothail volley gun or the Heavy slugger. Overall these two weapons do pretty much the same thing and this is not a major choice. The major choice that has to be made when it comes to the Plagueburst Crawler is its sponsons. Rattlejoint Ague (Aura): While an enemy unit is within Contagion Range of this unit, worsen the Save characteristic of models in that enemy unit by 1. Not surprised by all the PBC love, it’s a great offensive unit and fills a vital roll in our army for which we do not have many options. If I may play Devils (or should I say Deamon’s) Advocate, I have a serious issue with the PBC; its keywords. GSC and Thousand Sons both seem like straight up scam shows. I’d have played these much like the eldar. If the mission gives me something to exploit, take it, otherwise lean into the coin flips and the low % plays as fast as you can to make the game sloppy. You can’t let the army that’s stronger than you dictate the pace of the game because you’re going to lose there. Make the game chaotic. Make it about execution and decision making by trying things that shouldnt work but have high payoffs. Go for the 9” charge, the 10% chance to survive. If it doesn’t work, you were losing anyway, and if it does, the game is suddenly about something your opponent may not have the experience to operate around which is where I can try and leverage player skill.

Jony finished in the top 4 with Death Guard at Warzone Houston, starting the event with a loss but ripping off a 5-0 run after that to finish in the top 4. It’s also very notable for the fact that it doesn’t include Mortarion. Now we’re starting to get somewhere. The key thing to notice here is that the chipping is interacting with the layer of detail with it, creating chips in the transfers (and covering up spots where I screwed up. Messed up the entire bottom of a skull transfer on one crate? Chipping takes care of that. Layered weathering helps hide your mistakes).I did a fairly detailed tutorial on the specific method discussed here, so I wanted to go a bit more in-depth into what makes weathering look good. Pretty much every effective weathering involves layering different textures on top of each other in ways that add to the techniques underneath, as well as covering up mistakes, assuming that you, like me, want to do things with as little effort and precision as humanly possible. Paint any metallic accents, such as pipes or weapons, using metallic paints like Leadbelcher or Iron Warriors. Apply multiple thin coats to achieve a smooth and realistic metallic finish. Blight Drone • Contagion • Foetid Bloat-drone • Myphitic Blight-hauler • Plague Hulk • Plague Tower • Plagueburst Crawler Using a small brush, paint areas that represent ooze and slime with colors like Nurgle’s Rot or Moot Green. Apply thin layers to build up the desired effect, and consider adding small touches of gloss varnish to enhance the wet appearance.

Chaos Rhino • Chaos Predator • Infernal Relic Predator • Chaos Vindicator • Chaos Land Raider • Chaos Land Raider Proteus • Infernal Relic Land Raider Achilles • Land Raider Hades Diabolus • Relic Sicaran Battle Tank • Maulerfiend • Forgefiend • Defiler • Brass Scorpion • Blood Slaughterer • Blight Drone • Foetid Bloat-drone • Kytan • Plague Hulk • Venomcrawler • Myphitic Blight-hauler As the Death Guard Unit of the Week Series (DGUotWS) has been a bit sporadic, Wolf Lord Loki has offered to post UotW topics regularly to start building a good resource for all our plague ridden chums. The Plagueburst Crawler comes with 12 wounds and features a 3+ save, 5++ invulnerable save and once again the 5+ Death Guard Disgustingly Resilient save. Pretty much the same as the bloat drone other than having a pair of wounds extra. The major difference however is that the Crawler comes in at a whopping Toughness 8. If you thought the drone was tough, this takes it a whole step further! This vehicle once again is a daemon engine with the Nurgle keyword, making it play nice with Epidemius etc. The Crawler features a degrading profile, lowering its movement, strength and BS as it goes down in wounds. The big loser here is its mobility. While it starts at a 9” movement range its movement characteristic takes way harder losses as you go down in the chart than the drone does. Its degrading ballistic skill profile also means that its very meagre BS4+ becomes a 5+ as soon as it hits halfway. On the flip side the crawler does have a higher strength. Wargear Paint any additional details, such as the Nurgle symbol or other icons, using a small brush and contrasting colors like Balthasar Gold or Screamer Pink. Take your time and be patient, applying thin layers to achieve clean lines and precise details. The same technique can also work with a coarse salt like kosher salt. Instead of applying the hair spray, use water to deposit clumps of salt on areas that you want to see weathered. After painting, you can then remove the salt to reveal fine details bits of corrosion. Once you get used to the technique you can get a sense of what does and doesn’t work for your particular style, and combine effects as needed. Sponge Chipping, Layers, and Slathered Oil Paint – Felime This combo is pretty simple: The Lord of Virulence gives your BLAST weapons +1 to hit and [IGNORES COVER] against anything he can see, and Mortarion prevents your army from taking modifiers to their characteristics and rolls. This means that a PBC shooting an indirect target the LoV can see can hit on 2s, and if you have Diseased Influence up on Mortarion you’ll be re-rolling 1s to wound. This is also a good time to break out the Ferric Blight Stratagem for extra AP, though it only helps on one PBC. The downside here is that it means keeping the PBCs close to Mortarion and that may put too much of your army close together but remember you only need this for targets out of line of sight anyways – your plan with the PBCs should be to play aggressively and get targets in Line of Sight anyways, as the Entropy Cannons are a major part of their arsenal.
