Too often we want to feel our way into acting, when instead we need to act our way into feeling Chapter 12 – Winning Isn’t Everything, But Learning Is What if instead of looking at the seemingly negative things that happen to us as a “loss”, we look at it as a “learn”.For every sale that doesn't come to fruition, for every day that ends without accomplishing our goals, for each mistake and error that we make, for the missed opportunities and the times we aren’t at our best.“Learning” feels a lot better than “Losing”, and if we intend to “Win” more than we “Lose”, then learning is essential. Successful people don’t shy away from difficulties, they learn to face them and move ahead in spite of them. Jason Brooks:I don't think you're alone in that. I think there are a lot of people that those two would definitely be speed bumps for them. I know for me, seeing problems as opportunities is definitely something that I've been working on for a while, but it's definitely accelerated in the last 17 months. But I love your honesty there because we're all going to struggle in different ways, everybody's got a place in their learning pattern that might trip them up. And so, leaders there's ... first of all, be honest about it, and then second of all, get help if you need it. You have Kimberly to help you process things, and you have other people around you, inner circle, that sort of thing. It's so important for us as leaders to have people that can help us with our growth so that it's not just us doing it on our own.

Real Learning Is Defined as a Change in Behavior. The greatest gap in life is the one between knowing and doing. Remember to apply your learning and translate them into action. Yet the attitude of ” been there, done that” is textbook charisma. Most people admire that attitude (when earned). Keep it in mind, and maybe keep it in your bag when you need to act up a bit. What I loved:Change Your Non-growing Friends Wise is the person who fortifies his life with the right friendships. And of course, you have probably heard “ you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with“. Well, life is not intrinsically difficult Mr. Maxwell. Life is what you think it is. And I don’t think it’s educational -or true- repeating on a loop “life is difficult”. So here it is for your benefit: no it’s not. Life is beautiful. Mistakes are painful when they happen, but years later a collection of mistakes is what is called experience Chapter 10 – Change: The Price of Learning Mark Cole:It's so funny, I had no idea you were going to ask that. We could script this podcast, we do not. We could post edit and make us sound a lot better, we don't do that very much. We really try to live out leadership. We really try to bring authenticity to the podcast. And so, I'm sitting here circling two things that I really feel like I need to work on, and the first one is problems is the opportunity for learning. I got to tell you, I was convicted with that as John was teaching for two reasons, one, our friend, Carly Fiorina, she teaches that leadership is problem solving, nothing more, nothing less, kind of like John teaches it's influence, nothing more, nothing less, and I was going, to this day still when problems arise on any given morning, in any given moment of the day, in my schedule or otherwise, that problem, it takes me a minute. And you used the exact perfect word, it's a speed bump. If you don’t take responsibility, you give up control of your life (external locus of control). Taking responsibility for your life instead puts you in a place where you are always able to learn and often able to win (internal locus of control).

The one that I'm focusing on this morning is “Humility: The Spirit of Learning”.The great St. Louis Cardinals left fielder and MLB Hall of Famer once said “Show me a guy who is afraid to look bad, and I’ll show you a guy you can beat every time.”Humility opens our eyes and broadens our view.We aren’t just focused on justifying ourselves or looking good, we gain better judgement. An accurate view of ourselves is difficult to obtain and even harder to keep.It takes courage to have hope because it can be disappointing, but Maxwell is convinced it’s going to be rewarded. Finally after a lot of work and creative thinking we found a solution. Our host in Edmonton agreed to move my evening speaking engagement from that night to the following evening. Meanwhile, we hired a private jet to fly from Florida to Spokane with my passport. In my mind was a ridiculous picture of someone placing the passport in one of the seats, as if it were a passenger. Boy, did I feel stupid. Solid. A helpful and/or enlightening book, in spite of its obvious shortcomings. For instance, it may offer decent advice in some areas while being repetitive or unremarkable in others.
