About this deal

But there is no killer here, just a deeply unhappy woman who fooled us all, who put a brave face on things," Five years ago, con artist Summer rescued Leo from a life on the streets. Ever since then, they’ve roamed from town to town all over California depending on only one another. With the freedom to do whatever they like, the two have carved out the kind of life not necessarily made for everyone, but is perfect for them. I loved that we get two perspectives, both Leo's and Summer’s. Although I was pulled in with Summer’s story, it was good to get Leo’s take on the scheme and see what paths led them to where they find themselves at present. Despite how different they are, they are united in their friendship and their desire to con Michael Forrester, a billionaire philanthropist in California. OK, wow, I loved this book! YOU CAN TRUST ME is a riveting woman-power, pro-female friendship thriller, and one of my favorite reads this year. I adored the two lead protagonists, Summer and Leo.

The way the girls could get swept away to this island and once there, they honestly could have vanished into the ether. They were just playthings for the powerful men visiting the island; mere arm candy, trotted around like little prizes. An outstanding story. Cleverly plotted, fantastically written and a fast-paced, intriguing read’ Lauren North, author of THE PERFECT BETRAYALThis is a great thriller about two best friends who grift their way through California until their scam hits a snag. Trapped on the vessel as it ventures toward their first destination, the friends struggle to come to grips with their new reality. I also thought the setting of Michael's private island was quite interesting. There was something very Jeffrey Epstein about it. I enjoyed having something real life to sort of compare this to. It made it feel more realistic to me.

A gripping mystery in two compelling voices, exposing the dark side of influencer culture’ Claire McGowan, author of WHAT YOU DID Rowley has a firm grip on language and plot, and her easy, chatty style disguises a genuine emotional intelligence‘ Daily Mail

trust me

Eighteen years previously, Livy’s little sister Kara had been brutally murdered, and Julia had been Kara’s friend. But since then, Julia and Livy had become close – they understood each other and the devastation of the past. But Livy’s suspicions were that the same person who had killed Kara had also killed Julia. Was it possible? She had no idea who she could trust – even her husband Will had shattered her trust in him once again. Alana is the new girl, no one knows her and we don't know any people as we read from her point of view. So it just makes the plot that much darker. My favourite thing about Alana is that she's not afraid to ask questions. She's suspecting and questioning people left, right and centre and I was here for that strong female energy all the way through. I find characters similar to Alana in other books are meek and too frightened. But not this one! Kiersten Modglin's novels never fail to captivate me! The gripping story had me questioning the intentions of each character, unsure of who could be trusted. Right when I thought I had it all figured out, Modglin delivered a mind-blowing twist that left me speechless. This was a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers.

I found the plot to be V E R Y S L O W for at least 60% into this book. It's a lot of slow investigating going on, internal dialogues in Livy's head about what might be happening, again us hearing her thoughts around secrets and clues that are popping up. It's a very slow coming together of details and there is really not a lot of action AT ALL until around the 80% completed book. I found some choices Livy makes to be just plain ridiculous for an intelligent adult woman, she puts herself in some really risky situations before doing a whole lot of fact-finding, but she is fueled by the deep desire to find answers, so probably not thinking very straight. Though I'm glad Heard has 'made the jump' from YA, this book went from feeling like a thrilling bungee jump to feeling more like a cliff dive... but more specifically, a Wile E Coyote cliff dive.

Trust me!

What made this book not the best was the way Alana was being a detective. She would go ask her suspects "did you do this" and they would just tell her. I mean haha fair enough to her, but like?? I didn't see much detective stuff going on. Ok no too harsh. She was decent. She figured it out all in the end so it was worth it. I’m tired of men. I wish they weren’t simultaneously so easy and the most difficult, dangerous thing in the world. Brilliant characters and unexpected turns! Grows and changes with every reveal…’ Louisa de Lange, author of THE DREAM WIFE This book is well written, cleverly structured, has some good characters, plenty of mystery, tension and twists and turns. Left alone with her grief and doubts she tries to figure things out on her own, soon discovering a possible ally.
