DJI Goggles 2 does not support astigmatism correction. If you have specific vision requirements, please consult your doctor before use. Manual (M) Mode (only with the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2): Fly in M mode for complete, limitless control and the full FPV immersive flight experience. Experienced users can customize parameters and enjoy flight and footage unlike anything else. We feel compelled to note that confidence can lead to crashes; it did for us! Structurally that didn’t seem to be a problem, and we won’t question individual responsibility, but it is worth remembering the weight means this shouldn’t be flow too near others. FPV video can (and does) drop out occasionally.
There are multiple ways to buy the DJI Avata FPV, though which of these you need depends on if you own the original FPV hardware and what Goggles you'd like to use it with. DJI Avata only supports downward obstacle sensing when used with DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 or DJI Motion Controller in N Mode or S Mode. Absorb yourself in the action with a 155° Ultra-Wide FOV from a built-in 1/1.7" CMOS sensor. DJI Avata's 48MP camera records up to 4K/60fps.Once the cards are in place, all the parts can be plugged in and connected. In this review, I’m looking at the DJI AVATA drone, the Goggles V2 headset and the Motion Controller. I also have the DJI Fly App that seems quite limited at this stage. Where the FPV topped out at an impressive 87mph (140 kph) in 'Manual' mode, the Avata is limited to just 27m/s or 60mph (97.2 kph). The DJI FPV flew at this speed in 'Sport' mode, so the Avata is significantly slower. Although off-the-shelf cinema drones have been a reality in the consumer market for a half-dozen years, high-speed racing drones of the Cinewhoop style that can navigate through really tight spaces have largely been the domain of hobbyists, DIYers, and dedicated enthusiasts. With the Avata, DJI is doing what it does best—bringing an edge-case product into the mainstream. It’s fun in big open spaces where the Avata can achieve a distinct aircraft style of flying, but it’s awkward if you are in restricted airspace.
Compatible with DJI FPV Remote Controller 2, which is sold separately, and the DJI Motion Controller. DJI RC Motion 2 currently does not support the DJI Virtual Flight app. As humans don’t come with consistently-specced eyes, the Goggles 2 allows for both a degree of optical adjustment along with Interpupillary Distance changes. DJI includes frames to hold prescription eyepieces, though, so if you're an FPV pilot with bad eyesight, you have some recourse. Just how you can get the lenses is a question that DJI wasn't able to answer, though. A representative suggested that interested customers could consult with their eye doctor to have custom lenses made for the frames. I didn't have the time to investigate further or visit the optometrist during my review period, however. (Image credit: Adam Juniper / Digital Camera World) FPV controls are so different to normal camera drones that the learning curve for most people is incredibly steep. Where the DJI FPV sensor had only 12MP resolution, the new sensor has 48MP. However, we suspect it has a similar number multiplied by the clever use of oversampling filters rather than having 48MP sensor elements. This enhancement makes for crisper video and much cleaner still images.
