It sounds ridiculous to say, but the Borat sequel is about as optimistic as a film about the current political moment can be right now. Even though its lead characters are fraudulent pranksters, and their creator has a penchant for preying on politeness, the kindness people show Borat and Tutar is the furthest thing from manufactured. It’s a welcome respite from all the ugliness on display — and from the moments where the film might have viewers keeling over with laughter. Baron Cohen’s lawyer said the actor had never used cannabis and did not believe the recreational drug was a “healthy choice”, and alleged the company “took a gamble” in using the actor and satirist’s likeness, thinking he would never see it.
