About this deal

There's no denying it, M EX cards are cool. They were added as an expansion to the EX mechanic in X & Y to reflect the games' Mega Evolution theme. They showcased Mega-evolved Pokemon like Swampert, Lucario, or, of course, Rayquaza. The Rare Rainbow Pokemon cards feature holographic foil designs and alternate art for popular Pokemon such as Charizard and Blastoise. The cards also include a special message printed on them, giving each one a unique feel. Other rare cards from Celebrations: Classic Collection include Full Art Ultra Rare cards of Pikachu, Gyarados, and Eevee, as well as a secret rare Shiny version of the same cards. I dunno, maybe this logic is too basic, but the way I see it, the Celebrations Charizard is a somewhat safe investment, no? As time goes on, getting a base set Charizard is going to become harder and harder to achieve. For some, it's just going to be out of reach. But obviously people are always going to want it and want that design - it's nostalgic, it's classic, it's iconic. Celebrate Pokémon with the world-famous Pikachu, taking to the waves and the skies on a special pin to commemorate 25 years of good times and great adventures!

Pokémon Celebrations is a set looking at the best that the TGC has to offer with a range of cards that will complement almost any collection. One such card to receive the treatment is Charizard, re-released in all of his original 1999 glory. To me* it looks like the fonts on the old Celebrations cards is a bit different than the originals, like the “Pokemon Power: Energy Burn” text on Charizard. Perhaps new versions of Photoshop render the fonts differently? Otherwise, they use the same text, templates, set numbers, and everything else as the originals. TPCi obviously opened the original files and just slapped the 25th anniversary stamp over them. Some of the most popular Pokémon cards have been re-released as part of the ‘celebrations’, and boxes flew off the shelves during the holiday season.

We’d opt for the Gold Metal Charizard as the best investment piece, depending on whether the likes of PSA come up with a method to grade the card safely.

We’d keep an eye on graded copies of 2021 Charizard cards. We think they have great potential for profit over coming years.

Celebrations Classic Collection Singles

Join the party with the Pokémon TCG: Celebrations expansion! Finally, we come to the 2021 Pokémon Celebrations Ultra Premium Collection. Next up is the Gold Metal Charizard contained within the expensive hobby box. Unlike EX Pokemon, which were usually Basics regardless of if they're evolved or not, M Pokemon still needed to be evolved onto an existing EX Pokemon – to play M Rayquaza EX, you needed an Rayquaza EX in play to evolve from.
