Digby did not personally appear in New Horizons until the implementation of The Roost in the 2.0.0 Update. Before then, Digby was only visible in his collectible poster, and occasionally Isabelle would mention him and their parents (albeit not by name) during her morning announcements. Accident-prone Jeff works at a NATO research facility as an animal behaviourist. He steals a tiny amount of Project X, but an Old English Sheepdog accidentally drinks it. X is a liquid growth formula (a form of experimental fertilizer) and Digby expands to gigantic proportions.

The current Dulux dog is eight-year-old Madison, owned by Ellen Wheeler from Lincolnshire. Madison appeared with four of her pups in the TV advert for the Dulux Promise in 2019, and most recently you may have seen her riding a skateboard in the Dulux Simply Refresh advert.

It's impossible to get in or out of the Happy Home Showcase without Digby as the player cannot sneak past him. Military scientist Jeff Eldon works with animals in their labs. He also has a crush on fellow doctor Janine, who is working on growth hormone Project X. To help his roses Jeff `borrows' a little of project X but it is inadvertently fed to a lost dog, Digby. Whilst trying to hide the rapidly growing pooch, Jeff attracts the attentions of a couple of criminals who try to kidnap Digby for a circus attraction. As a result, Digby expands to giant proportions overnight and keeps on growing, much to the dismay of Jeff, who fears his “borrowing” is too evident to hide. Very much a cult family classic of the 70's this is better when remembered instead of watched. We all remember it as a great film when we talk about it in a pub 20 years on, but it isn't really that good. The story itself is not inspiring and is a rather easy story. What makes it better is that the director has made some nice set pieces and adult jokes in the mix. He also fashions it as a sort of King Kong spoof making it cine-literate – sort of! But when the chips come down it a lame story held up by distracting laughs.

Trying to throw the dog’s owner – a small lad called Billy (Richard Beaumont) whose mother (Angela Douglas) also works at the space research centre – off the trail of his now mammoth-size animal, Jeff tells the boy he has sold it and has to resort to eating a can of dog food to prove it.
