About this deal

We moved to Queen Street when I was nearly 9, I carried on going to Plasnewydd School, a shorter walk thank God! I passed the 11+ on second list. My mother had our brother Robert (who now lives in Greece). Nice house but close proximity to the market meant on two rainy days we had two visitors - massive tarantulas! I now know they wanted the warmth and the first bedroom was mine, complete with airing cupboard. My brother had unwittingly brought one home under his coat in Bethania Street after bringing banana boxes home. The completed street art graffiti in Caerau, designed to brighten the area and represent what makes the village special. (Image: John Myers) The section of Caerau marked as the fifth most deprived community in Wales, including Caerau Park and the Tudor Estate. (Image: Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation) When all's said and done though, it's locals still won't give up on it. In the words of one councillor: "It just needs a bit of attention. People get hung up on the area." looking for anyone related to the James family especiall Lily .... she haf two children Sylvia and roy. would like to know anything about their fsther who is my great grandfather . Maesteg Welsh school records " ...... comprising of attendance register for the school, 1948-1952; notes made by Miss Roberts; newspaper cuttings, 1963-1972" Yes, thank you! I didn't know them well but I remember so many people, then a name will slip round the corner for a while and torment me! I gather that Elwyn went into the Police somewhere and did quite well for himself. My great great gran was Annie Price born 1868, she was a single woman living with her parents James and Mary/Margaret in Maesteg when her son Percy was born in 1889. Annie was born in Cowbridge, but lived in Maesteg most of her life. Her siblings were Henry, Daniel, Edward and Margaret. Daniel married Ellen Roach from Tredegar.Lots of local footpaths to get out into the natural spaces have also been left to get overgrown and we can't use them which is a shame because the countryside here is really important.

Hi. I am researching my maternal grandmother's (Olwen Llewelyn) family tree. Her paternal grandparents were Isaac Llewellyn b c1851 Sth Wales and Elizabeth Howells b c1851 in Masteg. They were married in Llangynwyd Parish Church in 1870. In the 1871 census, they were living in Masteg with Elizabeth's parents - Benjamin Howells and Rachel ??Hughes (maiden), and Elizabeth's 6 other siblings. Isaac and Elizabeth sailed to Australia in 1872 and had 12 children, one of which was my great grandfather, William Francis Llewelyn. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Collaborative investment from Bridgend County Borough Council, Halo Leisure and Sport Wales has ensured that the local community will receive the best service possible. We have an Employability Hub, based in the centre of Maesteg. You're never going to see huge jobs in the area again now. An industrial revolution isn't going to take place again so I think we need better transport systems to get people in Caerau out working in different places. The Welsh school in Maesteg was established in 1947 in Yr Aelwyd, Commercial Street, Maesteg as a voluntary nursary school as part of a campaign to prove to the authorities a demand for a Welsh medium education in the area. In 1949 it transferred to the vestry of Bethania Welsh Baptist Chapel in Maesteg and, as some children were of school age, qualified staff were appointed including its first headteacher, Miss Nansi Roberts, a pioneer of Welsh medium education. ............................."
