About this deal

One of the reasons that the worlds hang together or that you feel like there’s this foreshadowing…is the first novel I wrote was set in this world but 20 years later. I had this one really amazing character show up — I actually had three or four characters cross over, and I love these characters but the novel was broken. I’d done some things wrong structurally. And so when I threw it away I was like you know what…I like some of the worldbuilding I did, and I know where things are going. I know where history is headed. And in that [book] there was this one character who showed up and I was like that guys’ a badass. He’s scary and yet he’s got this code. And so…who is he?

I really hate saying this, but this was a DNF for me. I made it to about 40% and could not take it anymore. I did not enjoy any part of this book and every time I started reading it I would start ranting about it. Literally the only emotion I felt when reading this was rage and anger. I do not even know where to begin other than I am so disappointed and frustrated by every aspect of this book. I had such high hopes for this book, I even bought a signed edition.

AUTHOR OF THE LIGHTBRINGER SERIES AND THE NIGHT ANGEL TRILOGY

DR: The opening scenes of both Night Angel Nemesisand The Way of Shadowshavean interesting parallel of two different characters being in a situation where they’re wondering about their assassin profession in relation to a child who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Were there any themes or parallels that you were especially excited to try and sneak into Nemesisor revisit? The Chantry plays an important role in this one. I have a big problem with atheist writers using Christian institutions in their fantasy works, and in this series the Chantry doesn't even seem to have any religious calling.... so why does it have to be called The Chantry? And OFC it acts as a bad guygal. If the singularity formed by assholes just wasn't enough, the other characters really aren't really the beacon of enjoyment either.

Weeks has been showing other fantasy authors how it's done for over fifteen years." — Peter V. Brett, author of The Desert PrinceTrust me when I say there are some pleasant surprises for The Night Angel fans in this installment. At first you are going to be a bit confused and then you are going to go ‘That’s just genius!’. Oh and there’s going to be a perspective change as well. Which, I have to say, was brilliantly executed. As is typical of Brent Weeks’ writing, the plot progression is complex and multi-layered, while his characters possess nuanced moral identities that exist in shades of grey which made it truly a joy to read this book. Your friend/parent/coworker/cousin/roommate/sibling borrowed it months ago and refuses to return it
