About this deal

The Live Guide menu lets you use sliders to adjust settings like white balance and aperture without even knowing it. The OM-10 was a manual focus aperture priority camera. When using it, all you had to do was manually set the focus, and aperture and the camera would determine the perfect shutter speed. The OM Series lenses had the aperture control ring located at the front of the lens barrel. This was done to move it away from the shutter speed control, which was a ring on the camera body concentric with the lens mount. OM lenses also featured a depth-of-field preview button on the lens, in contrast to most other SLR camera systems, in which the button was placed on the camera body. If you’ve been hunting for a camera that’ll give an intimate and nostalgic feel to photography without you having to break the bank, the Olympus OM-10 is the perfect camera for you.

The camera came at a reasonably low price. Unlike single digit OM cameras which are mainly collectables, the OM-10 is relatively easy to find. You don’t have to worry about being too careful when using it. Sometimes the light meter will not be working, of course, you can try putting new batteries inside but if it doesn’t work after that then there’s certainly an issue that needs fixing. The light meter readout can be found up the left hand side of the view when looking through the viewfinder. The built-in light meter is quite simple to use, and can be used with either a shutter speed priority or aperture priority approach to choosing the right setting quite easily. It’s even easier in auto mode of course – hand-holding the camera I could just keep the red light above 1/60th by changing the aperture and snap away. Pushing the camera’s ISO sensitivity to its limits, the results were usable, although details begin looking smudged past ISO 6400 when viewed at 100%. The ability to take better pictures in low light is further supported by the camera’s five-axis in-body image stabilization. This manages to keep images sharp when shooting handheld as slow as 1/8th of a second, which is a significant advantage for dimly lit scenes. The E-M10 IV's 2.36m-dot OLED viewfinder, unchanged from the previous model, provides a clear view of the scene ahead with settings overlaid on top. This means that once you’re familiar with the layout, you won’t need to take your eye away from the viewfinder to make adjustments.

The OM-4 featured a built-in spot meter [of a narrow acceptance angle, see Canon FTb] (2% of view; 3.3˚ with 50mm lens) and was the first camera capable of measuring eight individual areas and averaging them. The light meter used a dual-concentric segmented silicon photo-diode to provide spot or centerweighted readings. It used a graduated linear LCD for the shutter speed at the bottom of the viewfinder to precisely indicate its readings versus the actual camera settings. The kit zoom is fairly sharp even wide-open, especially towards both ends of its zoom range. The primes are both very sharp lenses, especially the 45mm F1.8. The selection of Micro Four Thirds lenses is broad, so whether you favor image quality, brightness, size and weight or affordability, there should be plenty of lenses to choose from at common focal lengths. While it's a great first camera for beginners, we'd also recommend the E-M10 Mark IV to more experienced photographers on a budget or those looking to downsize from a DSLR. It doesn’t deliver the battery or image quality performance of high-end mirrorless cameras or DSLRs, but it could be a great option as a recce or second camera. For those situations, and at this price, it's a terrific beginner mirrorless camera and certainly one of the best cameras for photography around. Price and release dateIf you’re one of those people who “feel naked” without the manual mode, you can attach an external adapter to the camera to allow you to use manual mode. The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is a fantastic little camera with plenty to offer. With a new 20MP sensor and improved Continuous Autofocus, the Mark IV boasts some useful upgrades over its predecessor, the Mark III. While the other improvements are admittedly incremental, we’re still impressed with what the Mark IV brings to the table. Finally, there may be fungus or scratches to the lens so be sure to take a look and make sure that the lens is nice and clean. Final Word

Auto ISO behaves differently in Auto mode than it does in the P/A/S/M modes. In Auto mode, the camera biases toward reducing motion blur. Thus it uses faster shutter speeds, which require higher ISOs. In P/A/S/M modes, keeping the ISO low is the priority, so you'll get much slower shutter speeds risking blur from subject movement. What's new | How it compares | Body & handling | Image Quality | Autofocus | Video | Conclusion | Sample gallery | Specifications I must admit, that although these results were not what I was after, they made for some great story telling. For starters, the camera was small and compact, with most of the buttons being located on the top plate. The Olympus OM10 is a good camera for beginners and people that want to take better shots while travelling and day-to-day but the OM1 is considerably better and has a stronger build. The Olympus OM10 is best for beginner photographers shooting travel photography, portrait photography, street photography and documenting day-to-day life. The OM10 isn’t really a professional film camera but it’s definitely a good place to start and still will produce some good results. The IBIS system also works quite well during video recording when walking and panning. While the E-M10 Mark IV can be used to capture attractive looking video, it's not heavily geared towards video shooters. JPEGs from Olympus cameras have always been pleasant, and the same is true on the E-M10 IV, as you can see in our sample gallery. Improved continuous AF

This camera is ideal for a beginner because of its aperture priority setting making it an easy camera to learn with while still producing better shots than at point-and-shoot cameras. Is The Olympus OM10 Good For Beginners?OM System has already given us the latest version of the professional Olympus OM-1 in the form of the OM System OM-1, along with the semi-pro OM System OM-5. But the OM-10 was arguably the most beloved of the heritage Oly SLRs –so the inevitable OM System OM-10 is a fresh opportunity to take the principles that made the old film camera great and apply it to modern mirrorless technology.
