About this deal

Shown above - V5 op-amp EH-1322 circuit boards with pots dated 1978 and tone bypass cap/resistor components mounted on the trace side. The V5 op-amp EH-1322 circuit number later changed to EH-3003B, but still with tone bypass cap/resistor components mounted on the trace side.

The Passive Tone Control has a simple and effective design: essentially it is just a combination of high-low pass filters that are mixed together by a single linear 100K Tone potentiometer. The cut-off points are designed so that their interweaving effect introduces a middle-frequency scoop/notch at 1KHz when the potentiometer is set to the middle position. 4.1 Big Muff Pi Tone Control Frequency Response. Whilst the sounds produced by the Op-Amp Big Muff Pi are as faithful to the original as you can get - in fact Billy Corgan himself said in an interview 'The magic's still in the box, I can still get what I'm looking for!' - Electro Harmonix have added one or two practical improvements. The story goes that Hendrix would go into a music store and 'audition' Fuzz Faces until he found one that he liked. Whether due to availability or stability, he did apparently make the switch to silicon Fuzz Faces. While it sonically doesn’t really deviate from the tone of a Silicon Fuzz Face, the classic fuzz is a great option if you’re looking for smaller and more standard-sized housing. 4. Specifications

Shown above - V4 op-amp Big Muffs with pots dated 1977. The V4 features an on/off switch and the words ON and Off appear on the graphics, which are identical to the V3 Big Muff. The only way to tell the difference is to examine the circuit board, which will have two op-amp chips rather than four transistors. This pedal is essentially a modern clone of the Maestro Fuzz-Tone from the 60s, which is what Keef himself supposedly used on the song (the history gets a little fuzzy , sorry for the horrible pun).

For Muff nerds only. The BM-20 comes with dip switches on the front that allow you to change the Muff circuit at 20 different points. Combined with the tone bypass option and silicon and germanium transistor switching, you have over 4 million unique settings available. If you’re looking for versatility and variety in your fuzz tone, this pedal has got you covered. 7. Dunlop Fuzz Face Mini (Silicon) Most late 60s and 70s fuzz pedal designs shifted to silicon designs, including designs that were originally made from germanium, like Dunlop’s 1970s Fuzz Face. One of the quintessential designs that incorporated silicon from the start was the Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi, whose design has influenced countless other fuzz pedals. Enclosure Size: 6 7/8 " x 5 1/2" x 2 1/4"(short end) x 2"(long end) / 174mm x 138mm x 35mm(short end) x 57mm(long end) Many inspiring guitarists use this stompbox, giving to the Big Muff Pi a leading role in the hard-driving music signature:

Success

This Big Muff uses op-amps as opposed to transistors to distort the signal, which results in a somewhat more nasal and more buzzsaw-type sound. The pedal also features a tone bypass switch which removes the tone from the circuit, which also results in a nice volume boost for creating big fuzzy tones.
