About this deal

If you're intrigued by the plot but scared by the length of the series, fear not. The characters are recurring, but the stories are standalone. In fact, I had no trouble understanding the dynamics between the characters, even though I didn't know them.

Body Work – Starting with a car on a killing spree, with no driver, Peter investigates a Bosnian refugee and a seemingly-harmless wooden bench with the darkest of paths... [11] Four stars for the narrative/ plot, a weak three for the structure. In the history of the graphic novels, I'd say it's one of the top two. Call it three and a half, rounding down because it's an effing graphic instead of a book. The Hanging Tree–The Hanging Tree, once Tyburn’s gallows, stands where Marble Arch now rises. History repeats—Oxford Street, the route of the condemned. The eerie legacy persists, as blood taints Mayfair’s vacant mansions, owned by the ultra-wealthy. Blood intertwined with magic calls for Peter Grant. Detective Stories - Peter is trying to make Detective which is a bit complicated when your exam proctor is 90% sure you are crazy or a practical joke!Detective Sergeant Miriam Stephanopoulos – She is a Greek Cypriot woman and a fellow detective. She is initially portrayed as a somewhat aloof and formal character, but over time, she becomes a close ally of Peter’s. Miriam is highly competent and efficient, and is often able to provide crucial insights into the cases that Peter and his team are working on. First of all, I love graphic novels! I’ve read several in this series and I think they’re really fun. This one did feel different than the other ones I’ve read in the series, but I still loved it! I love the fairy tales coming to life aspect. The two sisters were funny and I enjoyed their banter. The story was pretty straightforward. I thought the graphics were well done. So, this was my first in the Rivers of London graphic novels and clearly I was not impressed. I have read every one of the main story novels and a few of the "in between" novellas. I am a huge fan of the main novels; but I'm disappointed as well because the most recent installment, Amongst our Weapons, was a poor attempt and my hypothesis is that Ben Aaronovitch is spreading his creativity too thin. This graphic novel (manga) appears to uphold that hypothesis. Thank you to NetGalley and Titan Comics for providing me with an ARC of this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Rivers Of London: Deadly Ever After coming out January 24, 2023. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

The Hanging Tree Announcement - Gollancz". Archived from the original on 5 July 2018 . Retrieved 18 May 2018.

False Value – Peter Grant is facing fatherhood, and an uncertain future, with equal amounts of panic and enthusiasm. Rather than sit around, he takes a job with émigré Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner’s brand new London start-up – the Serious Cybernetics Company. Drawn into the orbit of Old Street’s famous “silicon roundabout”, Peter must learn how to blend in with people who are both civilians and geekier than he is.

The final chapter ties it all together, as it follows Abigail and Foxglove in their own little adventure, and discover how it intersects with what the others have been doing. While much of whole graphic novel is wordless, it's much more evident in this last one, as it leans heavily on the art to tell the story, quite successfully, too. Varvara Sidorovna Tamonina (aka. Varenka Dobroslova); Russian/Soviet witch (Night Witch), magical WWII veteran (365th Special Regiment of the Red Army), later living on her own in Britain with a magically extended lifetime Very entertaining, though in places a bit hard to follow at times. That is due to the non-linear narrative structure, though. The same Monday's events get experienced by different characters under different, though connected circumstances. At Dragonmeet convention in London, on 30 November 2019, it was announced that a role-playing game based on the book series would be published by Chaosium. [21] The game was released in PDF version on 30 November 2022, pending book version.Maybe this is a thing in today's graphic novels but I was getting confused enough with the jumping from the past to the present to a different time in the past, etc. that having panels with no dialogue didn't help me, anyway.
