About this deal

This was the orignal solution I personally acquired for doing per-circuit monitoring in my house. After getting everything setup initially, It was working fine. If HA still didn’t automatically discover the Shelly, you can manually add a new Shelly integration. The Shelly connects directly to your WiFi network without needing a hub and can be controlled via the Shelly app, and connected to the free Shelly Cloud for remote control. But at this moment I’m missing how much energy I’m consuming directly from the PV, and thus not asking from the grid. At this moment, the Shelly 3EM does not support electricity theft/leakage detection, which would require an additional clamp around outgoing Neutral wire. Shelly 3EM with its 120A clamps labeled A, B and C 1. De-energize panel ¶ More info on the addition of Home Energy Management in Home Assistant can be found in their blogpost. File "/usr/src/homeassistant/homeassistant/components/shelly/__init__.py", line 217, in async_setup_rpc_entry Item 2) Okay, so there are different firmware versions. I can update them, right? MAYBE! Updating Zigbee firmware is done ‘over the air’ OTA. This requires that your setup/system/hub : A) support doing OTA. B) Have access to the firmware images for your devices.

If you have invested in solar panels, you should be able to report on the return on that investment. If you are not a DIY friendly user, I would recommend another product. However, if you are not scared of soldering, and flashing firmware-Browse to http://192.168.33.1 to open the web portal of the Shelly (for more info, see this blogpost). Web UI of the Shelly 3EM Always be notified and monitor your power consumption with Shelly EM, so your power counter never cuts-out your electricity. In addition, the device can instantly recognize devices based on the unique energy signature. Therefore you can create custom updates when certain devices are enabled; such as when the garage door opens or the sump pump turns on. There are actually two ways to use the Active Energy registers. One is to read it at an interval of your choosing (with auto-zeroing on read), and the other is called LINECYCLE mode, where you tell it how many line cycles to accumulate before interrupting you with the result. In both cases the device immediately goes on to accumulate the next batch - no cycle goes unmeasured no matter how slow your reads are (within reason). The fetching of the results can be quite leisurely.

The downsides- This is dependant on cloud-polling. It is also quite pricey compared to the other options. I have heard a few times- its detection of specific devices may or may not work well. If I’m reading your code correctly, it looks like for the emoncms logging you effectively take a reading from the Active Power register every 10 seconds and post that. I think you’d get better results if you switched to using the Active Energy register instead. This option appears to have been removed in a later firmware update, so I’m not sure how relevant it is anymore. Think about doing the laundry or dishes, turning on the AC or charging an electric vehicle (EV) when we have an abundance of energy.i remember having read on the datasheet that there are some registers that accumulate energy and reset to zero every time they are read Item 3) Okay if you are not frustrated enough by the ‘state’ of Zigbee. Grab a tall beer, because you have gotten all of your devices up the latest firmware, life is good. NOPE.

While everyone's circumstances are different, here are some of the considerations when making the decision to the best smart home energy monitor. Save Money The proprietary/all in the family setup/system/hub support OTA firmware for THEIR devices. Hue, Ikea, Aqara are examples I have experience with. Samsung SmarThings setup/system/hub, I have found to be the most comprehensive, but it is still not 100%. For example, it has been a while, but I do not think they support Hue. But they support CentraLite, Ikea, OSRAM among others.
