About this deal

Thorne is tasked with finding the person killing domestic cats around London. Working on the theory that he/she will not stop there he ropes in DI Nicola Tanner, now working at MIT with him, to help but she has a case of her own, the murder of a refugee, so they end up working both cases together. A new Mark Billingham is always a treat and The Killing Habit hurls the reader straight into the action. Thoroughly enjoyable for being so very real. ( Susie Steiner, author of Missing, Presumed and Persons Unknown) The Killing Habit" sees Thorne being given the task of investigating the deaths of cats. Is somebody warming up their killing skills by mutilating pets? Thorne certainly thinks so & working with Nicola Tanner, the pair try to catch a potential serial killer before the bodies start to add up.

His first book in the Tom Thorne series left a strong impact on me, and I think this is where I really developed a strong love for British crime novels. One of DI Tom Thorne’s most harrowing cases begins with evidence that someone’s taken to slaughtering…cats.Forget about solving all these crimes; the signal triumph here is (spoiler) the heroine’s survival. As usual, Billingham’s procedural elements are meticulous, and the personal and professional lives of his richly drawn characters are a staple of his novels. I dare you to figure out who the killer is. The twist is a fun one, and the confrontation at the end will leave you breathless. It’ll probably also make you cringe, but in a good way.

And of course, then at the end we’re left wondering how correct Thorne’s ‘workout’ theory was anyway…. While DI Nicola Tanner investigates the deadly spread of a dangerous new drug, Tom Thorne is handed a case that he doesn’t take too seriously, until a spate of animal killings points to the work of a serial killer. When the two cases come together in a way that neither could have foreseen, both Thorne and Tanner must risk everything to catch two very different killers. Each book in the series revolves around a case that is solved by the end of the book. However, if you get to like the rather flawed (damaged as some call him) character of Tom Thorne, you will want to follow his progress and learn more about him, without skipping a book here and there. A] sensitive topic delicately handled, with a perfectly executed and thoroughly unnerving twist at the end Mark Billingham pens one of my favourite crime series - the Tom Thorne books. The fifteenth book in this series, The Killing Habit, has just released. At the university, he graduated in drama, after which he co-founded a theater called Bread and Circuses. The killing of animals, cats, dogs, birds, together with fire starting and persistent bed wetting is one of the telltale traits that make up the characteristics that may help to identify serial offenders. A suspenseful, professional-grade north country procedural whose heroine, a deft mix of compassion and attitude, would be welcome to return and tie up the gaping loose end Box leaves. The unrelenting cold makes this the perfect beach read. Thorne is one of British crime fiction’s most compelling detectives and the quality of writing make Mark Billingham one of the best and most consistent writers in the business. This is an excellent police procedural novel that brings together two excellent characters to give an added interest to this already excellent series.
