I've always been a fan of racing games in the arcade, and bringing the experience home is a childhood dream come true. I only recently made enough space for a desk big enough to attach racing wheels and have been searching for the perfect set. Usually, the quality of the wheel doesn't affect my enjoyment of the simulation experience. Still, the TX leather edition felt different when unboxed, giving the impression that this would be somewhat more intense and serious. The racing wheel servo base is designed for smooth steering without any jolting. We’ve only noticed these issues when the racing wheel servo base isn’t stable enough to support the game mechanics. If you were wondering whether all the jargon about the servo means holds any weight, I could tell you that after one race, I was a total convert to the dual-belt system. It's the smoothest racing wheel I've used, with zero notches felt in subtle turns, as with some gear-driven models. It's the most substantial resistance I've felt, too.

It's also very heavy, but then this is where all the magic happens. Inside you find a brushless motor with its own special cooling system which Thrustmaster says is there to support "many hours" of e-racing. It gets a little warm, but nothing you'd ever say is hot, so it's doing its job. Example: A driving simulator game will usually use the constant force to simulate the G-Force. It will create a constant force at 0% but, depending on the speed and the wheel angle, the force will be increased accordingly.

And even though it's a serious performer, it doesn't get particularly noisy, even with a sizeable looking vent on the rear. You hear some air whoosing but that's about it apart from the sound of the motor when you turn. A periodic force will vary in time according to the type of periodic effect, amplitude and frequency. Because a periodic force includes an offset that has the same behavior as a constant force, some games will create a periodic force and merge an effect they would render for a constant force (like the G-Force) and a periodic effect (bumping road).Usually, when something’s off or your wheel feels clunky, it’s often a problem with the racing wheel base as the foundation of your setup. But Thrustmaster isn’t one of those wheels that’ll make you feel robbed of a luxurious experience.
