About this deal

I also have an issue with Belly in that I don't really understand what both boys see in her? Yes they've grown up with her and yes they know her better than any other girl, but what is it that makes both boys want to have a punch up over her? I get why girls like C and J - one is clever and mysterious, the other is likeable and kind, but with Belly I still feel like I'm wondering what made her so special? Im not sure her character and personality was ever developed enough outside of the love triangle. The occasional story of how Taylor dictated their friendship and how Anika provided a freedom for her as she hadn't known her all her life (How? Explain) just isn't enough. I think this is why in the show they tried to flesh her out more with hobbies like volleyball etc. In the books she doesn't have anything going on but toying between the brothers. Taylor insists, “You should have everything you want, Belly . . . You only get married once.” Describe your ideal wedding. What would you prefer to have, but could do without, when push comes to shove? What features of your dream wedding are “deal breakers”—what do you consider absolutely imperative?

When Belly tells Anika about Jeremiah’s infidelity, Anika replies, “Keeping a secret like that from the person you love is probably the worst part.” We learn of several secrets in We’ll Always Have Summer—Jeremiah’s, Belly’s, Conrad’s. How much of what happens in this third novel is influenced by secrets? Is it ever okay to keep secrets? Is it ever okay to keep secrets from the people you love, in particular? Belly has loved Conrad for a lifetime it seems, but he's kept his feelings to himself, choosing not to do anything to change their dynamic. After the summer she turns 16, they give their relationship a try, but amid family drama and Susannah passing away, Conrad pulls away and tells Belly to be with Jeremiah instead.

Hobbies

Before the wedding, Laurel and Conrad also had such a tender and sweet conversation that made me CRY my heart out 😭! It just felt like such a magical moment.

Summary 1: It's been two years since Conrad told Belly to go with Jeremiah. She and Jeremiah have been inseparable ever since, even attending the same college-- only, their relationship hasn't exactly been the happily ever after Belly had hoped it would be. And when Jeremiah makes the worst mistake a boy can make, Belly is forced to question what she thought was true love. Belly’s disappointment in Jeremiah makes her think of his brother, Conrad. She recalls how, six months earlier she had driven down to the Fishers’ beach house and stayed the night. Conrad showed up and the two of them shared fun conversations. Belly never told Jeremiah about that day because she felt guilty about it. That day made Belly realize that, even after a few years of dating Jeremiah, she was still in love with Conrad. We can tell a lot about a person by the company she keeps. In We’ll Always Have Summer, we’re introduced to Belly’s friendship with Anika, in addition to her ongoing friendship with Taylor. How are the friendships similar? How are they different? What roles do Taylor and Anika play, respectively, in Belly’s life, at the time when the novel takes place?

What I also loved was how when Belly was stressing over all the wedding things that two people stepped up for her: Taylor and Conrad. run after him. Tell him anything, everything. Just don’t go. Please just never go. Please just always be near me, so I can at least see you.
