Tizen is divided into four (technically five) sections: Search, Ambient, Gaming, Media and Menu. Ambient is where you can turn the screen into an art installation with a selection of prints (you’ll also have to contend with the dreaded NFTs). The Gaming Hub features cloud services such as Utomik and Xbox Game Pass, Samsung TVs are the only TVs you’ll find that app on. Media features streaming apps along with curated content from the likes of iPlayer, and Menu is where you’ll find options to tweak picture, sound, etc. Otherwise, there wasn’t much to complain about. Augmenting the QLED TV with one of the best soundbars out there wouldn’t be a terrible idea, but it’s also not necessary for anyone with less than the most discriminating ears. Samsung QN90B Neo QLED TV: Gaming Apart from a) the alarmingly high pricing for UK customers relative to their American counterparts and b) some localized weirdness in pricing (a 50-inch version of the QB90B that costs the same as the 55-inch version in the US?), the most obvious takeaway is that there’s really not all that much to choose where pricing is concerned – though we're already seeing discounts on Samsung's 2022 TVs, so watch for the latest prices, which will change this balance slightly. The only notable app absentee is Freeview Play – though Samsung does support the separate catch up apps of all of the key UK terrestrial broadcasters. Picture-wise, the 43-inch QN90B disappoints in three ways. First, like other Samsung TVs, it doesn’t support Dolby Vision, so you won’t get the most out of movies and TV that do. Its off-angle viewing isn’t the worst, but the screen’s colors lose a lot of their inherent richness and take a grayish cast if you’re positioned too far from the center of the screen in any direction. (Samsung touts a feature on the QN90B line called Ultra Viewing Angle, which is supposed to mitigate this, but it is included only on the 50-inch and larger models.) Because this is a smaller set, that’s unlikely to be a critical problem, but keep it in mind. It also has a little bit of trouble generating fine detail in some of its picture modes: In Cinema and Filmmaker, fine details occasionally get a little mushy in a way they don’t in Standard and Dynamic. (This was particularly evident in all the 1-pixel sections of one of our chief 4K test patterns.) Sit far enough away, and you’re unlikely to notice, but it has the potential to distract if you’re too close. Samsung QN90B Neo QLED TV: Audio
It all means that the QN90B should be more visible during daytime in bright rooms – between the extra brightness and the anti-reflective screen, you're less likely to be seeing yourself instead of the picture. There really is nothing to choose here - well, not unless you're planning to do your gaming from radically off-axis, anyway. With an HDR signal, the QN90B shows a peak brightness of 612.132cd/mYour requirements will have to be fairly specific for the QN90B to make a compelling case over the QN85B if there's a significant price save – unless the smaller screen size availability is a factor (and, let’s face it, the 43-inch QN90B seems to be more like a QN80B based on its specs anyway). The entire process is slow and clunky, if a necessary evil given the remote’s limitations (see the next section). Other interfaces are much more user-friendly, some (particularly Google TV) while offering you even more up-front information and better suggestions about what to watch. Does Tizen get the job done? Yes, but Samsung could do better, and hopefully will in the not-too-distant future.
