About this deal

The infinite, sentient library has a lot of hidden features that only allows some to know it's mysteries. Alex and the guys go on several adventures within it's walls encountering various characters within its walls. Alex is emotionally and mentally destroyed when Niyx Raedon dies, taking a while to cope with the fact he is gone. Alex first met Niyx in Raelia, when he was mentioned as one of Aven's Garseth. Later on in Draekora, she and Niyx become close friends as he continues to train her, so she will be able to use her Meyarin abilities with her full potential. In Graevale, Niyx works as Alex's spy, as he is considered one of Aven's most trusted followers because of their history together. Later on, Niyx sacrifices himself to save Alex, leaving her broken. The only remnant she has of him is the letter that Niyx delivered to Kaiden, prior to the other events. Potential applicants must be 14 to enrol for Akarnae. You stay for 5 years there and visit home every holidays or weekend depending on your permissions. Though if Akarnae appreciates you enough they will take you in for an extra 2 years, these students are called Apprentices. After the enrolling process, you are given a lollipop which decides your class levels for the rest of the year. There are 5 different levels - Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon. After a year, you will either upgrade to a higher level of your classes, be downgraded down to a lower level or stay at the same level. This depends on how you perform in classes. There are many classes taught, but the few unique to Akarnae are Combat taught by Karter, Equestrian Skills taught by Tayla, PE taught by Finn, Gift Development taught by Professor Marmaduke, Chemistry taught by Fitzy, History taught by Doc, SOSAC (Study Of Species And Cultures) taught by Casper Lennox, Species Distinction taught by Varin, Archery taught by Maggie (secretly Mayra) and Medical Science taught by Professor Luranda. There is also a Med-Ward, which is run by Fletcher. So I figured I should finally read it. And...yeah, I didn't love this. Let's bullet point the reasons: Other than that, this book was awesome. For some reason, I'm kind of loving Aven. I think that's because I feel like his complexity is unfolding. He makes a great antagonist. The cliff-hanger was unfair though, I mean... why?

I won’t judge the book on the story since I didn’t even finish it but the plot was nothing intriguing for me. There’s a doorway that led Alice into a new world which has been read and seen before (ahem, Narnia) but this supernatural occurrence fell absolutely flat when Alice came across as an illogical human being who didn’t even understand how weird this stepping into a new world is. I think she was living in a bubble, which could’ve been fine if her age was resonating with her thoughts; if she was much younger than a sixteen-year-old, I would’ve let that fact slide but unfortunately, she wasn’t.

Akarnae was wonderfully written and delightfully surprising, not to mention an incredibly enchanting fantasy. Alex's story begins with her parents abandonment in favour of their own adventure, leaving her at a new school without helping her settle in. Where most teens would be an emotional disaster, Alex takes it all in her stride but before she's had a chance to enroll, she's thrown into a world that is not her own. Alex has no choice but to remain at Akarnae, with the only person who has the ability to return her to her world, now missing. Based on an age old method of sorting teens by their potential, Alex now finds herself within a multitude of advanced skill classes, including combat. With her two new friends in Jordan and Bear, Alex hides the secret of who she truly is from her peers. Alex spends her nights deep in the Library under the guidance of her new and mysterious mentor. Alex is desperate to strengthen her gift as well as protect those she loves. Because being in a world where nothing is for certain, she can only be sure of just one thing: Aven is coming. There were so many revelations throughout this book, whether its Aven wanting to unleash his fury on Alex and those closest to her (by the end my feelings were a puddle, truly, I did not see the betrayal coming, it just hurt!), but also where there is fear and hurt I know there’s hope, so I definitely am hopeful for a turn around with what one character is now going through! Also though at the same time, I’m kind of looking forward to the darker scenes? Purely though because I’m hopeful that Aven’s deciets and ploys will fail?! Either way, I couldn’t BE more excited to continue my adventure in book 3! Finally, during Hearts and Headstones (Bear's Story), after Bear's dad's death, Declan comes to tell them that Kaiden and Alex had disappeared.

She believes that she has it easy but he tells her that in fact, she has scored remarkably well in her test and Jordan tells her that many people can only dream of being and Epsilon in anything. This is a tough one for me to review because I really wanted to like it more than I did. I had to wait a while, to let it sink in and let my thoughts about it marinade a bit. The adventures are fun, the story well mapped out, the main character is engaging. I enjoyed the actual reading experience, for the most part, quite a bit, but I have to admit I had some eye rolling moments and put it down a few times to take a break. The actual reading experience was probably 4* for the most part, but the small frustrations accumulated and bugged the edges of my brain whenever I was not actually reading, when I was thinking about it. I don’t hate Bear and Jordan I just don’t find them interesting, or interesting enough to care about. Lynette Noni is a marvellous and inventive storyteller, whose books are absolutely impossible to put down. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!” — Sarah J. Maas, #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses series Carly Robins has done a great job of giving voices to these characters and masterfully conveys how they feel, the teenage girls don't sound overly shrilly, the teenage boys sounds like teenage boys. The adults and other races are also beautifully read.I loved all the mystery throughout this book too! Why was Delucia plagued by her nightmares? Were they prophetic or some other kind of darkness? Why was she so weary of Meya? Why was Jordan being so aloof to his very best friends after a weekend with his parents? The ending of this book was equally soul wrenching and satisfying! There aren't really any characters I don't like. They're all a bit different, and unusual, and psychotic. Karter is awesome. Finn ... nope. I would not want to do one of his classes at all, nuh-uh. The characters in this book are so well-written and are a group of friends that i want in my own life because they all bring something different to the table. Alex for her determination, fight and loyalty because she never gives up on her family, friends and the challenges she's given. Jordan for his wit, loyalty and sense of humour. Bear for his smarts, loyalty and sense of humour. D.C for her compassion, loyalty, understanding. Friendship plays such a big role in this series because all four of the main characters are so close to each other and it definitely shows and i seriously need these four characters as my friends in real life. Akarnae features shades of Harry Potter, a boarding school for magically inclined teens. With strong, friendship based relationships and a chosen one based storyline where Alex's world has been turned upside down. Each student enrolled at Akarnae is there on the basis of their unique magical abilities, except Alex who has yet to discover what her ability is. My only gripe was Alex's parents and how unprepared she was for this next stage in her life, even based on her attending the supposed International Exchange Academy alone. And guess what? NO instalove, no love triangles or anything! These three best friends will just stay friends. What a breath of fresh air!

The friends also only use their gift twice during the book. I would have liked them to someone be intertwined to the climax.

Aven is the first person and Meyarin to meet in Medora. Initially, he was speaking something about how Alex was his destiny and scurried off. Alex had no idea what he meant until later on. Alex is such a fantastic protagonist. She falls into this world of magic and takes it all in her stride, going along with it, and copping crap from her new BFFs, Jordan and Bear, whenever she starts to take the magic stuff too seriously. This is a book that's not afraid to poke fun at itself.

Draekora” is the third novel in the “Medoran Chronicles” series, which was released in the year 2017. Aven Dalmarta hides in the shadows of Meya, and Alex desperately wants to save Jordan and keep the Rebel Prince from killing more people. This was a great way to start the book, especially since Alex was miraculously in a new world where everything was different. She adapted slowly to the change and enrolled at Akarnae as a third year, (only gifted can enrol, Alex had not found her power yet), while waiting for the headmaster to return in a few months, as his whereabouts were unknown. Also Aven. The bad guy and at this stage the main reason why I am reading this book, I’m predicting or rather hoping that he gets more brutal.
