About this deal

LTD EDN SERIES: Our small batch range of experimental beers. It’s what happens when we let our brewing imagination run wild and see where it takes us. So we’re always trying something new, and so are you. At Pop, there’s everything from hot yoga to vintage clothes sales and DJ sets to open-mic nights to support mental health. On the other hand, ‘POW’ – as it’s affectionately called – is more about 4am raves, pub quizzes, comedy nights and live music events such as Sofar Sounds. Whatever you’re looking for in Brixton, you’re bound to find it at one of these spots at various times of the year. Brand new independent brewery just down from the Brixton Brewery. Open Fri 5pm to 7pm, Sat noon – 5pm, Sun 1pm-4pm. You’ll find Redemption Brewing Co. at Unit 16, Compass West Industrial Estate, West Road, London, N17 0XL.

Probably one of the most famous London breweries we’re covering in this piece, Brixton Brewery is well known for its Atlantic pale ale, and its Low Voltage session ale. Both can be found in pubs across London and beyond. Nearest stations are Meridian Water and Northumberland Park. 13. Fourpure Brewing Co., South Bermondsey Photo: Fourpure Brewing Co.

Converted from an old furniture factory, their taproom is certainly roomy and has ten different pumps of draught beer, various food vendors outside and special beer launches and tasting events throughout the year. It’s easy to see why – s loping floors offer superb views of Europe’s largest fixed stage, all sheltered by a cavernous 140-foot-tall dome echoing the beats and sounds of the musicians playing. No wonder then that the Maccabees billed this as being “ the best venue in the world ”. We concur.Sadly it’s closed for the time being, but we really hope this one opens its doors again soon. The taproom is well positioned by Brixton market, which means it’s within easy tipsy-walking distance of all the delights of food, drink and music this corner of South London has to offer. Cronx It’s unlikely that you’ll need to book tables at a taproom but if it’s a special occasion or generally busy time (public holidays, sunny days) you might want to call ahead and see if you can reserve a spot for when you arrive. We are proud to support as many independent businesses as possible. This is becoming difficult recently due to mergers and acquisitions in the beer industry and you’ll learn a bit more about this on the tour.

With Brixton Village slowly transforming from a traditional market to a boozy foodie tourist destination, there’s plenty of places to bag some grog. We’re not entirely sure how it qualifies as an outdoor space, but it’s a lot warmer inside than your average pub garden. The market also hosts Lost in Brixton, a large drinking indoor/outdoor space on the first floor.Another Bermondsey classic, this craft brewery in South London make fantastic beer including extremely fancy farmhouse ales and a lovely double mosaic IPA. Good thing that you’re spoiled for choice here. Start with a visit to Dog’s Grandad – a cute microbrewery that has made plenty of waves since opening in March 2021 due to its natural, vegan-friendly beer and easygoing staff. Is Hootenanny a pub or a state of mind? This raucous venue, which neighbours the Effra Social (see above), pulsates with 70s disco, tropical house, Queen as reimagined by brass bands, eardrum-bursting drum 'n' bass and jazz/funk open jam sessions that'll be swirling round your cochlea for the remainder of the weekend. If it's not the beating heart of Brixton, Hootenanny is at least one of its vital nightlife organs. You needn't have it large to get in on the action though — there's Balkan pub grub, and a fairy light-strewn beer garden. Hootenanny, 95 Effra Road Located along the main Herne Hill high street (and handily located right outside Herne Hill train station), this south London market near Brixton has a local, village atmosphere with over 50 traders selling locally-produced foods, arts and crafts, vintage clothing and records. New owners Portobello Brewery have invested in a splendid covered outside area with heaters and cushions.

Defiance GF Pale, our first ever gluten free beer, sister beer to our super popular Reliance PA, says ‘IN YOUR FACE’ to the laws of nature governing the formation of microscopic cross-links between naturally occurring proteins and SMASHES THE STATE of disulphide bonds between the proteins glutenin and gliadin, to produce this DELICIOUSLY REBELLIOUS fruit salad of a beer, equally enjoyable to those with gluten intolerance, and those who just want a tasty pint. The huge outdoor space is great for sunny-day drinking, so it’s an easy summer hit. They even have visiting street food vendors on a rotating basis, so you can get cajun food or chips and pitta to soak up all the beer. Breweries West London Portobello Brewing Another pub that takes its names from the now-culverted river running beneath Brixton, the Effra Hall Tavern is a no-nonsense kind of a establishment by day, where you can happily sink a couple of G&Ts at the bar — with its beautifully brass-stemmed lamps that glow like huge Mr Whippys — or simply crash and watch the footy. The pub shifts gear in the evening with live jazz sets, where everyone huddles around the musicians (there's no stage as such), and all is well with the world. Effra Hall Tavern, 38 Kellett Road Grosvenor Arms They know a thing or two about beer here. Image: Londonist As well as great beer it also has tasty food with weekly rotating vendors rustling up some pretty great grub – from homemade pizza to bangin’ burgers and loaded fries. What more could you want to line your stomach! Gipsy Hill Brewery have had a bumper year, and as of just a few months ago are the only brewery in this guide to be totally employee owned. As those employees are the people who brought this brewery success with beers like Hepcat IPA and Hunter helles lager over the last few years, we have no doubt they’ll continue to go from strength to strength. The Trinity Arms is your local home from home, hidden on a stunning square in the heart of Brixton, just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of Brixton high street but far enough away to be a welcome retreat.

Our penultimate addition to this list of the best things to do in Brixton is exploring its pop-up events, w hich tend to take place on the rooftop of the rowdy Prince of Wales and in *ahem* Pop Brixton. Discover 5 amazing London Breweries in one of London’s most talked-about neighbourhoods. The entire venue has a delightfully shabby-chic feel to it, with recycled railway sleepers and ladders making up the bar and rusty bed springs transformed into the light fixtures. Their beer ain’t bad either – they serve up a mean lager, session IPA, stout and pale ale – and their pizzas are some of the best you’ll find in East London.
