About this deal

Looking for accessories and spares for the Garmin eTrex 10? All parts are genuine Garmin product and specifically designed for use with the handheld Garmin eTrex 10 device. Hopefully you can now see tough this GPS is. Hopefully I don’t need to write anymore about the durability as it would only be a case of preaching to the converted. You’ll now see a numeric keypad and navigation arrows. Use the keypad to enter the coordinates from your map. If you don’t need to change a particular digit, use the left and right arrows to navigate past it. Climbing The Dodd and then Puncherton Hill in the Cheviot Hills, looking at the elevation data on the Garmin Epix (Gen2) - 05:11 We look at the good points and bad points of the Garmin Epix (Gen2) and compare it against the Garmin Fenix 7 GPS watch.

The three main areas of the navigation system of the ETrex that I use are: bearings, white points and routes. I’m going to cover each of these in detail shortly but for now I just like to skim across some of the other functions that you can use on this GPS device. The Sunrise/Sunset Feature The GPS position format is important. This setting must match the maps you’re using. Most important is the Map Datum, which is the coordinate format your GPS will use. We stretch our legs along the Pennine Way as it passes through Yorkshire and talk in depth about the Motorola Defy satellite link. The sun was shining for once and the video hopefully brings a bit of insight into how to use a Garmin Montana 700/ 700i and 750i GPS unit on the hill.

System requirements

After first planning a course on some free route planning software we transfer it to the Garmin Epix (Gen2) using the Garmin Connect App before following it. The eTrex starts fast. You should see the home screen in less than 2 seconds. But this doesn’t mean it’s ready to use as the unit will need to acquire satellite links. More on this later.

I regularly use the waypoint function and found it so useful that I used it to map my journey across Greenland. The Digital Compass

Introduction video

Pretty much every GPS device allows you to enter a route which can then be followed stage by stage. Most devices also feature an alarm that can be set to notify you when you’re within a certain distance or proximity of the way point. Garmin have had this feature on the GPS is from many years. Proximity alarms are useful when you risk tumbling into a vast chasm from which there’s no return! Not everything goes to plan! In this walk and talk I put the Garmin GPSMAP 66i through its paces in The Cheviot Hills.

There are two parts to understanding waypoints. First, you need to know how to create a waypoint. Afterwards you can change them, use them to take a bearing and plot your route. Satellites This might disappoint some of you and that’s understandable. But this review of the Garmin eTrex 10 is nothing but honest. Today, you will concentrate on manual entry and dropping a pin. We will cover the Garmin desktop app in another post. Waypoint Configuration on the Move The default display is ‘Numeric Degress’ and the ‘North Reference’ set to magnetic. If you need more accuracy in your bearings and route planning, change this to ‘Mils’. But, only if you are confident navigating in this format and you’re using a military style compass. WaypointsThe recently upgraded Garmin Instinct watch has some great new features so in this review I take it into the countryside and navigate with it.
