About this deal

Today's guest was raised and taught in a K-12 Christian school setting but decided her college destination was the University of Texas-Austin. Hear how she navigated and worked through a decidedly different cultural and spiritual environment to reach graduation and how she continues to be challenged in her first professional experiences in Washington D.C. politics. Dom commented: “A healthy economy is dependent upon empowered young talent achieving their aspirations. I’m humbled, to be a part of the forward thinking, game changing, award-giving charity that is Making The Leap. Working with the team to drive social mobility momentum and have a positive impact on young people’s lives is an exciting opportunity for my passion to meet purpose.”

It also delivers bespoke recruitment drives to give companies access to audiences that are under-represented amongst their workforce. These projects not only provide young people with entry level career opportunities, but also support companies to widen the talent pool they have access to. A unique episode of Making the Leap featuring two fearless men in their respective fields who've stood tall at great personal cost to their careers and families because they stayed true to their Christian faith.Making The Leap has a number of excellent interventions for school children. These range from educational courses preparing children for work experience, to programmes targeted at boosting a child’s motivation and performance. Delivered by a team of expert staff and highly-trained & committed volunteers, our tailored sessions expose pupils to the soft skills, behaviours and attitudes needed to succeed in – and beyond – school. Secondary school students – It delivers a range of classroom based programmes and one day activities which run throughout the academic year designed to raise students aspirations and develop their character. Our mission is to transform the futures of disadvantaged young people in the UK, by providing training to raise their aspirations and develop their skills, behaviours and attitudes to choose and succeed in a career. All the young men attend the soft-skills workshop and receive customised training specific to jobs. This would include company values, required aptitude tests, core competencies and any dress codes. Thereafter, the young men receive individual coaching after the soft skills programme. This is where they are supported with any of their individual needs. This coaching is both work-related and pastoral, and would last for as long as required, to give them the best opportunity of securing the life-changing opportunity they are seeking. Making The Leap is pleased to announce that Dom Scott, Managing Director of Lifetime Connect and Laurence Meehan, Corporate Relations Director at Diageo have both been appointed as Making The Leap Trustees and join the charity this October.

We use what we learn in our delivery operations to raise awareness of the importance of social mobility among UK businesses and encourage them to take action to improve it. Its programmes provide a variety of meaningful and popular employee engagement opportunities. These support companies to meet their CSR aims and provide employees with opportunities to utilise their skills to have a real impact on the lives of young people. We're thrilled to welcome a podcasting veteran of the last seven years - Linda Kardamis to the Herzog Podcast Network. Linda's podcast Teach 4 the Heart will be offered alongside Making the Leap each week in our growing family of podcasts. We offer our 16-25 year olds ongoing coaching for as long as they need, as well as holistic support such as counselling, to ensure that they are fully equipped for their next step. The 2023 Awards launched with the sixth annual Social Mobility Business Seminar in March. The nominations for 2023 submissions then opened in April, and will close at the end of June. Once the entries are in, they will be judged by a prestigious panel made up of leading figures from business, politics, charity and the public sector, and are chaired by Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, Chair of Restoration Partners. The winners will be announced at the annual Awards gala, which will be held on 12th October, 2023. Should you fight them on the decision? How do you know your child is spiritually ready? Can your child's entire education be erased on a four-year, secular college campus experience?
