Diagnosing ADHD in children depends on a set of strict criteria. To be diagnosed with ADHD, your child must have 6 or more symptoms of inattentiveness, or 6 or more symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsiveness. Our Mindworks Surrey community teams work across Surrey and are made up of health and social care professionals. These multi-disciplinary teams promote good mental health and provide assessment and treatment to children and young people up to the age of 18 with a mental health condition. All referrals are made through the Children and Family Health Surrey One Stop online portal(pleaseuse Google Chrome to access). This is the same portal as Mindworks Surrey. We can work with school staff and parent/carers to enable them to nurture children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing. We link closely with other services and partners, this enables us to support the school to consider what services are available for children, young people and families through signposting.Initial home visit assessment to all cases introduced to us from the Solace Centre and signposting to other services Mindworks Neurodevelopmental Service out-of-hours phone line also provides advice to parents and carers who are struggling with behaviours or difficulties which could be related to neurodevelopmental need, such as ASD or ADHD.Skilled and friendly advisers will talk through with families ways of calming down difficult situations, as well as possible coping strategies on 0300 222 5755 (5pm until 11pm, Monday - Sunday, 365 days a year). Children and young people do not require a diagnosis to receive support at school. If a child or young person has a need in school, they are entitled to receive support to meet that need. proactive prevention and promotion to enable the whole community to support mental health and wellbeing

Every mental health treatment programme is as unique as you are; our exceptional level of experience enables us to identify the best therapy or combination of treatments to help you. Children can be referred by their health visitor, GP, therapist, early years' service, paediatricians based in the local acute or tertiary hospital, paediatric audiology, Mindworks Surrey or other agencies. We can also offer signposting and resources to the professional network around the child or young person to enable them to identify any concerns and support any developing mental health needs. We can work with parents and schools to enable them to nurture children and young people’s emotional health, wellbeing and build emotional resilience. There's no simple test to determine whether you or your child has ADHD, but your specialist can make an accurate diagnosis after a detailed assessment. The assessment may include: If your child's challenges do notimprove, and both you and the school believe it's negatively affecting their day-to-day life, you should work with the school to complete the necessary paperwork for an assessment ofneed. EHCPs are not based on any diagnosis, but focus on the presenting needs of a child or young person. Having a diagnosis of any condition does not mean that any child or young person automatically receives an EHCP. Many children go through phases where they're restless or inattentive. This is often completely normal and does not necessarily mean they have ADHD. But you should consider raising your concerns with your child's teacher, their school's special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCo)if you think their behaviour may be different from most children their age.

The support we provide will vary depending on thespecific needs of the children or young person (ie:an initial assessment, short term goal based therapy, support for the child’s school or signposting to other services).Children and young people can beseen at school, in a clinic or online depending on their needs. STARS works closely with the Solace Centre as, for many families, this is the first place they visit when a child tells them about sexual abuse. No, these are not secure methods. We accept referrals via the online portal, telephone and post as described above. Where can I access the referral form?

The service looks and feels different for families, children and young people receiving the service and for referral agencies, not only because of the additional investment in existing and new services, but also because: Although not always the case, some children may also have signs of other problems or conditions alongside ADHD, such as:

Sleep problems –finding it difficult to get to sleep at night, and having irregular sleeping patterns It may be useful to have a brief period of "watchful waiting"to see if your child's symptoms improve, stay the same or get worse. STARS is a service for children, young people and their families who have been affected by sexual abuse. We offer support and advice to key people (teacher and or parent/ carer) around the child or young person to enable them to identify any concerns, understand what has happened for that child or young person and support any developing mental health needs. symptoms that make their lives considerably more difficult on a social, academic or occupational level
