The optional solar charging feature is worth having if you have solar panels because it lets you charge your EV exclusively with solar power. With a small solar panel setup, you should be able to draw around 3.6kW or up to 7kW with a larger solar installation. As the electric vehicle market grows and changes there are likely to be rapid changes in EV home chargers and electric vehicles in general. The EO system is a modular system so upgrades and changes are easy. You can easily add more EV charging points at home, to make sure you have enough charge points installed as your home charger needs change. The EO Smart Home App is simple to use and displays all important data, like energy use, charge duration and current session time on one screen. The Zappi’s Eco modes mean the charger draws energy from your solar device, instead of energy from the Grid—provided the house isn’t using that energy, of course. The sophisticated software has been designed to enable customers to prioritise whether excess solar energy storage should go to the car, a battery or, should you have one, a hot water tank. Upgrades from the first iteration of the Zappi now enable customers to benefit from off-peak, or ‘agile’ tariffs, both of which help keep energy bills as low as possible. To supply the cable you have to drill under and through the EO Mini enclosure, roughly a 20-25mm hole. This capability lets you choose between fully green or mixed charging modes, depending on your energy production and consumption at home. If the EO Mini Pro is installed with a Garo earthing device then no rod is needed, but if you don’t use a Garo, you should still use an earth rod. You can install the EO Mini Pro inside a garage for example and that way it would use the house earthing and not need a separate device. But this would mean you could only charge indoors and would have to put the electric vehicle in the garage every time, doing it outside with this setup is dangerous. As an added safety feature, the app will not allow charging to go live if your vehicle’s AMP (power) level is incorrect. While this can be annoying, it is for the client’s benefit; if the AMP setting is wrong, it can damage your electric vehicle’s battery!The EO Mini Pro 2 is available tethered (Type 1 or 2) or untethered. If you’re unfamiliar, a tethered charger has a built-in cable, and an untethered charger has no built-in cable, so you need to plug your own cable into the box and then into your car.
