About this deal

Louis Süe designed all the perfume bottles and boxes for Jean Patou. [5] 1930s [ edit ] JOY by Jean Patou Elegance is simplicity. Joy is elegance in a bottle. For all complexity of the formula, which arrived sealed and perfectly preserved, this is a stunning jasmine simply warmed by the real civet and musks inside. It’s not dirty, it’s not extravagant in a more contemporary way (think 70’s/80’s stunners); it’s simply beautiful. Marc Bohan, born in 1926, made his debut with Jean Patou at the age of 18. He left the couture house to better find himself as the artistic director. He kept the legend alive from 1954 to 1957. He moved on to serve as the head of creation at the Dior house for the following thirty years.

Joy was different from the previous Patou perfumes. First of all, unlike all the precious releases from the house, this bottle was very simple, austere and geometric, much in sync with the Art Deco style, and following the footsteps of the hit of Chanel Nº5. Second, the composition was for all women, more universal and not directed at a specific skin color or a particular event. It was a simple name, but very meaningful for everyone, everywhere. Joy was also jumping in the floral rose-jasmine trend initiated with Chanel Nº5, but whereas Chanel's take depended on artificiality and illusions, Patou's approach was mainly about naturalness and tradition.

I have decided to love it for its uniqueness! Because it is unlikely that I will cross the path of another woman wearing it. Jean Patou remained a family-owned business until September 2001 when it was bought by P&G Prestige Beaute a division of Procter & Gamble, which also market perfumes for Jean Kerléo and Karl Lagerfeld.

ok that's the first time i ever try any Jean Patou fragrance, i can sense a strength of harsh character in the over all concept though, i can feel it, it is present even if in this intended to be mild scent,I feel a little out of place wearing Joy Forever, possibly due to my young age. I'm definitely not labelling this fragrance an "old lady" scent by any means, but I do find it a more mature fragrance, one that would appeal to and smell best on a more mature woman.

Joy could be so far away from modern idea of what perfume should do that it might be a reach to hope for that. Is that metal exhaustion of the owners - or what? Big money offered for the brand assets to wipe them out? It feels odd to write this, given how everyone keeps saying that this is floral and 'for women', but my nose doesn't perceive this as such (OK it could be my nose!). To me the EDP comes across as a progression of 3 things: citrus cologne (with something bitter/herbal), peach-floral heart (but green, rather than sweet) and musk/sandalwood combo for base. I'm happy with all of that! The blending is excellent, so each part blends into the next. I am far from blaming those, but hey, why so? Why does Guerlain find a way to sustain old chaps of their line, why do they find ways to play with temporary withdrawals then reissues of the old gems, still insisting on their importance to the world? I also love vintage fashion and also love wearing fragrances that aren't on trend but possibly ready for a wider audience.I just opened a 2.5 ounce bottle of the EDP which I found for a steal online and applied it probably too liberally about 5 minutes ago. Joy" was voted "Scent of the Century" by the public at the Fragrance Foundation FiFi Awards in 2000, beating its rival " Chanel No. 5". [10] And like others, I get a resemblance to L'Air du Temps, my mother's signature scent ... both have a bright lemon-like quality to me, although L'Air du Temps is airy whereas Joy is creamy. After three minutes, the scent suddenly disappeared, making me wonder if the olfactory system was disrupted by high-intensity indole.
